And that will not be the only activity offered to people who want to spend part of their July 4 holiday in the park.
Ocean Bay Restaurant in Wytheville, as a way of announcing its name change from Blue Bay Restaurant, will provide a seafood dinner with proceeds going to the playground project. The cost will be $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
Musical entertainment and children's activities will be offered all afternoon.
Sandy Cash, gospel recording artist from Braithwaite, La., and a former area resident, will sing from 1 to 1:45 p.m.
Other performers, starting at noon, will include Fresh Water with Edwin Lacy, Irene Mobellini, Sandy Surratt of the Prophecy Singers, the Rich Family, Pam Sage and David Vaught.
The Wytheville Ladies Ruritan Club will offer a ``duck derby'' in which children and adults can buy rubber ducks to enter in a creek race. The grand prize will be two nights at English Mountain Resort in Sevierville, Tenn., donated by WYVE radio.
The playground is to be built by volunteers Oct. 12-16 on land provided by Wythe County in Ager Recreation Park. Tom Rockwell, from Robert S. Leathers & Associates of Ithaca, N.Y., the architect, has met with area school children to incorporate their ideas into the playground.
The facility will cover 10,260 square feet and cost about $65,000 to be raised through donations, from grants and foundations, and by fund-raising activities. All donations are tax-deductible.
The Wytheville Lions Club has already donated $10,000 toward the project.
Further information on the July 4 activities to benefit the playground are available by calling Donna Burgess (228-7866) or Kelly Sisti (228-7414).
