WOOD, Harry S. Jr., (``Buddy""), 70, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 4, 1994 following a long illness. He was retired from Fralin & Waldron, and a Marine veteran of WWII. Surviving are his sister, Louise W. Allman, Roanoke; aunt, Mrs. Bob Jarrett, Northern, Va.; nephews, Billy Allman and wife, Jennie of Va. Beach, Carter Allman and wife, Elfie, of Roanoke, Bradie Allman and wife, Beverly of Vinton; cousin, Anne St. Clair Boger, York, S. C., Jack St. Clair, Houston, Texas; great-nieces, Stephanie Allman, Kristi and Karen Spessard; special friends, Mrs. Fralin, Mrs. Handy, Mrs. Mason, the Murphys, Sister Mary Gertrude and his ``Fralin & Waldron girls"". APJOK, Margaret Suzanne, (""Peggy""), of Roanoke, died Monday, July 4, 1994. She was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church where she played in the Handbell Choir and was in charge of Junior Church. She was a former Social Worker for the City of Roanoke and a Director of Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her father, John Thomas Yard Sr. Surviving are her husband, Robert Apjok; sons, Robert Apjok Jr. and Scott Apjok all of Roanoke; mother, Harriet Yard of Indiana, Pa.; two brothers, Jack Yard Jr. of McIntyre, Pa., James Mark Yard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Betty Ann Cooley of Salem; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Shenandoah Baptist Church 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert Alderman and the Rev. Jim Wollenschlager officiating. ARNOLD, Alexander Jr., 84, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 3, 1994 in a local nursing home. He was retired from Grumman Emergency Products, Inc. Surviving are his wife, Donna Bradley Arnold; two sons, Frank E. Arnold, Vinton, Edsel C. Arnold, Roanoke; two stepsons, Samuel H. Quarles Sr., Vinton, Larry E. BROWN, Andrew Sr., 91, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 4, 1994 at his home after a long illness. He was a member of Greater Mt. Z ion Baptist Church, a retiree of the N & W Railroad, the Frank L. Moose Jewelers, Downtown, Alleghany-Dunbar Lodge #109, Acorn Consisory #103, and Aladdin Temple #111. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances E. Brown; one daughter, Mrs. Bettye B. COFFMAN, Russell Joseph, 83, of Fincastle, died Sunday, July 3, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, William K. and Ida Garst Coffman, one brother, Percy L. Coffman, and was a member and Deacon of the Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his wife, Grace Poague Coffman, Fincastle; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Leah Coffman, Fincastle; three brothers, William (Bill) Coffman, Bridgewater, Clarence E. (Mickey) Coffman, Robert D. (Bob) Coffman, both of Roanoke; three sisters, Mary Bryant, Edna Duncan, both of Roanoke, Virginia Prease, Buchanan; two grandchildren, Laura Lee Coffman and Douglas Wayne Coffman. CREASY, John Will, 74, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 3, 1994. Mr. Creasy was the son of John Will and Theodocia Pollard Creasy. He was predeceased by a son, John Jay Creasy. He is survived by his wife, Adelaide Snead Creasy; daughter, Sallie Kent Creasy; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis Albert and Dorothy Tate Creasy of Roanoke; and sister-in-law, Lucille Creasy Anderson; also a number of nephews and nieces. He was educated in Roanoke Public Schools and was a graduate of Richmond Professional Institute, now Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and was the first president of the school's alumni association. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he had served as teacher and deacon. Creasy was for more than fifty years a catalyst for the Arts in the Roanoke Valley and was associated with numerous Arts organizations, including Mill Mountain Theatre (and its Stagehands and Curtain Callers committees). He was an early director and organizer of the Art Museum of Western Virginia. He was an honorary director of Opera Roanoke. He worked with Patchwork Players, Festival in the Park, Showtimers, Arts Council of Roanoke Valley, Children's Theatre and many other groups. He was instrumental in the formation of several Arts groups; he was co-founder of the Virginia Watercolor Society, the only state-wide organization for artists, and served as Historian for fifteen years. He conceived the Museum of Theatre History which is currently planning the publication of a book on the American theatre. He was a board member of the Arts Place at Old First Church and organizer of Saturday Arts at Old First, a series of Arts programs for exceptional ch ildren. He served as a member of the City of Roanoke Architectural Review Board and Arts Commission for a number of years. Creasy was known as a watercolorist and his work is included in the collections of many corporate and private collections. He was a familiar participant in the Sidewalk Art Show, for which he was chairman for fourteen years and Art In The Alley, a yearly art exhibition in Salem. He was the honoree of the John Will Creasy Art Society, a group of supportive friends of the Arts in the Roanoke Valley. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Downtown Roanoke Chapel 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 7, with the Rev. M. Dennis Herman and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Burial will be in Glade Creek Cemetery. John Will requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to any of the Arts organizations he championed. DUDLEY, Nettie Smith, 95, of Hyattsville, Md. area, formerly of Princeton, W. Va., died Sunday, July 3, 1994 at her residence in Maryland. Born in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Li

llie Janney Smith. She was educated in the Radford/Christiansburg, Va. area and had taught school for several years. She was a homemaker and had been a resident of the Hyattsville, Md., area for the past 17 years. She was a charter member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Valley View at Green Valley, where she had been very active prior to moving to Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Dudley, three daughters, Frances Cooper, Florence Meadows, and Marie Wagner, along with a grandson, Wayne Wagner. Survivors include one son, Jack E. Dudley, Falls Church; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Proctor, Beltsville, Md., Mrs. Everett (Maxine) Kitto, Hyattsville, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Lura Carter, Salem; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren. HOLLIDAY, William B (""Doc""), 64, of Radford, passed away Sunday, July 3, 1994, at his home. He was employed as a samples coordinator for Wolverine Gasket Co. Mr. Holliday was a retired Master Chief of the U.S. Navy having earned the rank of E-9. He was a member of Fleet Reserve and the American Legion. He was a past President of the Radford Host Lions Club, Board Member of the Pipe Shop Credit Union, and a member of the Radford Christian Church and the Snowville Volunteer Fire Dept. MARSH, Roy Lee, 63, of Route 3, Wytheville, died Sunday, July 3, 1994, in the Veterans Hospital, Salem. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Cox Marsh of Wytheville; one son, Jeff Marsh of Wytheville; two sisters, Blanch Marsh and Frances Allison both of Wytheville; one halfsister, Georgia Akers of Wytheville; two granddaughters, Rickell and Shannon Marsh; one grandson, Chad Hale. McNEW, Charles Elmer Sr., 58, of Roanoke, died Monday, July 4, 1994 at the Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem. He was a native of Washington County and had lived in Roanoke for the past twenty-five years. Mr. McNew retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after thirty-six years of service. He is survived by his wife, Betty Cahill McNew; his son, Charles E. McNew Jr.; his daughter, Darla Sue McNew, both of Roanoke; Trudy L. McNew, of Roanoke, three grandchildren, Elise McNew, Kali McNew, and Brad Loving; his sister, Rosaella Irwin, Christiansburg; one niece; and one nephew. REEDY, Harold R., 62, of Sugar Grove, passed away Sunday July 3, 1994 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion. He was born June 16, 1932 at Troutdale to J. Lester and Edith Richardson Reedy. A member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove. A U.S. Army veteran and merchant employed with his father, J.L. Reedy's Store, Troutdale for 35 years. He was also a farmer. Survivors include his wife, Maxine Phelps Reedy, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin H.. and Yvett e Reedy, Sugar Grove; father J. TAYLOR, J. Blake, 79, of Comers Rock, passed away at dawn Monday, July 4, 1994 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Va., following a stroke ten days earlier. He was a lifelong cattle farmer. Born October 10, 1914 at Comers Rock, Va. to Johnson Anthony and Elizabeth Jane Catron Taylor, a member of M t. Zion United Methodist Church, and several prominent local state and national farm organizations. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Elma Cox Taylor, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Taylor and Mark Rhudy, Comers Rock; granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Angela Joines and Mark Bourne, Elk Creek, Cyndee Joines, Comers Rock; great-grandson, Lucas Blake Bourne, Elk Creek; sister and brother-in-law, Opal Taylor and Tom Davis, Comers Rock. Also surviving are a nephew, Raynard Hale and nieces, Joy Wright Harrington, Rita Hale NEal and Wava Hale Teilmann. His sisters, who preceded him in death, are Sallie Wright and Arlie Hale. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 6, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Pastor Rick Eminhizer and the Rev. Kenneth Atkins officiating. Interment in Comers Rock Cemetery. The body will lie in state at church, thirty minutes preceding service. THURMOND, Robin L. Sr., 85, of Roanoke, died Monday, July 4, 1994. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Neuhoff Thurmond, and was a graduate of Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Thurmond was associated with Valleydale packers as office manager, Secretary and Treasurer of the Corporation until his retirement in 1973. He continued as a member of the Board of Directors until December 1989. He was a member of Kiwanis International, Knights of Columbus, and was a Charter Member of Hidden Valley County Club. Surviving is a sister, Dorothy Eley, White Pl ains, Ga.; brothers, W. J. Thurmond, Greensboro, Ga., Lamertine Thurmond, Madison, Ga., Bernie Thurmond, Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, David, Cathy, Richard and Chris Fletcher, Rob, Kara and Stacey Thurmond; one daughter-in-law, Mary Thurmond. The Mass of the Ressurection will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 1994, at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. The Rev. Kenneth Stofft will officiate. VIAR, Claude Millard, 85, of Roanoke, died Sunday, July 3, 1994. Mr. Viar was retired from Kroger, after 391/2 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Funk Viar; one son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Sue Viar; three grandchildren, David Viar, Kerry Viar, Matt Viar; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest E. WALTERS, Emma Cordelia Umberger, 90, Wytheville, died Sunday July 3, 1994. She was a resident of Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Samuel Luther and Nancy Caroline Corvin Umberger. She was a member of the Petunia Christian Church Disciples of Christ and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Manley Walters and an infant daughter, Nancy Ellen Walters. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Geneva W. and J. Douglas Wohlford, Wytheville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank G. and Virginia Walters, J. Alan and Lou Walters, Charles L. (Tinker) and Joyce Walters, all o f Wytheville. Eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Petunia Christian Church with the Rev. Henry Horton and the Rev. Lewis Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Petunia Christian Church Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., or at the residence of her children at any time. WILLIAMSON, Walter S., 79, of Norfolk, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 2, 1994 in the Veterans Medical Center, Salem, Va. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad as an electric welder, with 38 years service. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Atlantic and Pacific. He was also a member of the American Legion Federal Post #60 in Norfolk, Va. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Frances Cox Williamson; daughter and son-in-law, Shelby J. and James F. Bauer, Ventura, Calif.; son, Rickie L. Williamson, Norfolk; five grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene P. Williamson, Roanoke; two sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews
