TOWN MEETING SET

The 36-member Governor's Commission on Citizen Empowerment, created to build on welfare reforms enacted by the General Assembly this year, will hold a town meeting next Wednesday at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The meeting - the final in a series of five town meetings throughout the state - will be held in the civic center exhibition hall at 6 p.m.

Gov. George Allen and Kay Coles James, Virginia's secretary of health and human resources, will attend. Allen, James and commissioners will observe a community-initiated revitalization project, visit several citizen empowerment projects and hold a work session before the meeting.

People wishing to speak at the meeting can call (800)562-4694 to sign up. Speakers may also register at the meeting.
