\ ERIC ROBERT MINTZ, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan R. Mintz of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Washington and Lee University.
\ DEBORAH GEYER LYNN has been named to the Hollins College Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, Virginia Iota. Lynn recently received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Hollins and graduated with honors.
\ BEVERLEY HASKINS LOGAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Logan III of Daleville, recently graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria. She will attend the University of the South (Sewanee) in the fall.
\ JOSEPH SCANLIN of Roanoke recently was honored as a Distinguished Military Student for initiative and leadership by the department of military science at James Madison University.
\ MICHAEL A. PADERICK of Troutville recently was promoted to the rank of corporal while serving with the fourth combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Lynchburg.
\ AIRMAN PHILLIP E. WITMER, son of Verle E. and Jane S. Witmer of Roanoke, recently received the Navy Good Conduct Medal which recognizes honest and faithful service during a four-year period. Witmer maintained a satisfactory level of performance and an unblemished conduct record for the entire period.
\ PETER A. BUCHANAN, son of Darlene B. Whitt of 5067 Northwood Ave., has been promoted to senior airman.
Buchanan is a 1989 graduate of William Fleming High School.

\ WILLIAM FLEMING HIGH SCHOOL announced the names of students who received instrumental music awards during the school's spring concert. They are: Thomas Pendleton, John Phillip Sousa Award; Cary Sweet, Semper Fidelis Award; Amy Johnson, Arion Foundation Award; Jennie Hilton and David Bliley, Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.
Bliley and Hilton were voted the Top Jazz bandsmen by student members.
The Top Concert/Marching bandsmen were Thomas Pendleton, Amy Johnson, John E. Wright, April Johnson, Keisha Miller, Latoya Jones, Sonya Sawyer, Carl Tinsley, Erica Lea and Vicki Farmakis.

\ KRISTIN WESTERMANN, daughter of Dwayne and Kay Westermann of Roanoke, has been selected for membership in Alpha Lambda Delta at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. The national honor society seeks to recognize and encourage scholarship among first-year women.
\ EAST TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY in Johnson City recently awarded degrees to several Roanoke-area students. They are: Heather N. Croft of Daleville, bachelor of science in political science; Tracey S. Beckner of Roanoke, bachelor of business administration in marketing; and Lynette E. Henry of Roanoke, bachelor of science in elementary education.
\ TRACI D. OSBORNE and JENNIFER C. WILLIAMS, both of Roanoke, were named to the dean's list at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

\ MARY LaNEVE MOLINARY, a 1994 graduate of Roanoke Catholic High School, received the Anna Louise Haley Award. This award is given by the Catholic Historic Society for achievement in history.
\ AVERETT COLLEGE has named several Roanoke-area students in its Adult Curriculum for Excellence to honors list.
Sandra Leigh Golding and Harold Lee Hutton were named to the president's list.
Those named to the dean's list are: Keith Bradley Biggs, Susan Renee Pollard, Victoria Ainsworth-Ray, Sharon Jane Reed, Gerald Wayne Tuggle and Frederick Lee Whitt.
