\ JOSEPH SCANLIN of Roanoke recently was honored as a Distinguished Military Student for initiative and leadership by the department of military science at James Madison University.
\ MICHAEL A. PADERICK of Troutville recently was promoted to the rank of corporal while serving with the fourth combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Lynchburg.
\ AIRMAN PHILLIP E. WITMER, son of Verle E. and Jane S. Witmer of Roanoke, recently received the Navy Good Conduct Medal which recognizes honest and faithful service during a four-year period. Witmer maintained a satisfactory level of performance and an unblemished conduct record for the entire period.

Bliley and Hilton were voted the Top Jazz bandsmen by student members.

Sandra Leigh Golding and Harold Lee Hutton were named to the president's list.
