RELIGION BRIEFS

A GOSPEL SONGFEST, sponsored by the Christian Women's Fellowship of Loudon Avenue Christian Church, is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the church, at 730 Loudon Ave. N.W.

\ AN EVENING OF PRAISES, a mountaintop worship experience, will be presented on Sunday at 4 p.m. by the Lay Organization of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, 2128 Melrose Ave. N.W. The Whitfield Family, Narcissus Bishop, Alice Green and Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Holland are a few of the artists participating.

\ A GOSPEL MUSIC CELEBRATION WITH EVELYN CONNER will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Connelly Memorial Baptist Church, 3907 Hershberger Road N.W.

Conner has served as director of Appalachian Power Co.'s "Appalachan Chorus," and the "Young Musicians" choir at Connelly Memorial Baptist Church and as music director for the Daleville Church of the Brethren.

She also is director of "Rejoice," a women's ensemble, and interim Sanctuary Choir director at the Bethel Baptist Church in Salem.

\ A YOUTH REVIVAL will be held Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Williams Memorial Baptist Church, 2105 Carroll Ave. N.W. The Rev. J. R. Hughes, pastor of Bent Mountain Baptist Church, will lead the revival. Roanoke-area ministers and choirs will participate in the worship service.

\ MEN'S DAY will be observed on Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service at the Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1014 Norfolk Ave., S.W. George Clemons, a juvenile probation officer for Roanoke, will be the guest speaker. Music will be provided by the church's men's choir.

\ THE STORYHOUSE, Vinton Baptist Church's Preschool Library Program for 3-and 4-year-olds, will begin its summer session on Wednesday at 10 and 11 a.m.

The free classes, which will be held in the church's media library, will continue for five weeks. Each session will feature stories about family. Weekly activities will include games, songs and library lessons.

Enrollment forms need to be returned no later than Monday. Classes will be limited to 10 students per class. To enroll a child or for more information, call the church office at 343-7685.
