Col. Michael L. Aliff and Col. Robert D. Eldridge have been named to command two Salem Army Reserve units.
Aliff will command the 2nd Brigade, 80th Division. He was the former commander of the division's 1st brigade.
Eldridge will take over the 80th's Training Support Brigade. He formerly commanded the division's 3rd brigade.
Headquartered in Richmond, the 80th Division is made up of 4,200 reservists serving in units in 24 Virginia communities.
United Way seeking minorities for program
The United Way of Roanoke Valley is seeking candidates for its fall Minority Leadership Enhancement Program.
The program, funded by a Ford Foundation grant, is designed to increase the representation of blacks and other minority groups on the boards and committees of United Way and other community agencies.
The fall class will consist of six two-hour sessions on consecutive Tuesday nights beginning Sept. 20. A $15 registration fee covers supplies and materials. Scholarships are available for this fee.
