TRAFFIC SAFETY BOARD NAMES AWARD RECIPIENTS

The Blue Ridge Community Traffic Safety Board has announced the following area award recipients for projects in 1993:

Brenda A. Altman, 1993 District Traffic Safety Volunteer of the Year for establishing the Smith Mountain Lake Mothers Against Drunk Driving Chapter.

Roger S. Fuller, Outstanding Community Leadership Award for setting a high standard for DUI arrests and convictions and for outstanding volunteer efforts in the Roanoke Valley.

Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition, Outstanding State Project Award for sponsoring campaigns to generate support for improvements to Virginia's DUI laws.

1993 Regional Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Campaign, Outstanding District Project Award for a campaign aimed at deterring impaired driving during the holiday season.

1993 Summer Safety Expo of the Roanoke Valley, Outstanding Community Project Award for an expo aimed at educating the general public about transportation safety.

Roanoke City Police Department, Outstanding D.A.R.E. Project Award for sponsoring the 1993 Roanoke City D.A.R.E. Camp.

Business awards went to the Insurance Women's Association of Roanoke for sponsoring the 1994 Southwest Virginia REACH Conference and to the Roanoke Gas Co. for its first alcohol-free Christmas party.
