BISHOP, Clarence E., 82, of Riner, died Wednesday, July 6, 1994, at Radford Community Hospital. He was a retired dairy farmer and was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Thompson Bishop. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy B. and James F. Denney; four sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Mary Ann Bishop, David and Dorothy Bishop, Benjy and Debbie Bishop, Joey and Teresa Bishop; one brother, Kyle Bishop all of Riner; one sister, Mary Lawrence, Norfolk; ten grandchildren, Harold Denney, Danielle Denney Hale, Jill Denney, Michael Bishop, Melinda B. Branscome, Miranda Bishop, Jamie Bishop, Amy Bishop, Logan Bishop and Kayla Bishop; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Elder Willard Cox with burial in Sunset Cem etery. CHARLTON, Dr. James Perry, 65, of 1208 Curlew Place, Virginia Beach, died Thursday, July 7, 1994, at his residence. He retired from the Virginia Beach Family Practice in March 1994. He was a graduate of Roanoke College, Class of 1951, with a B. S. in Chemistry, and the Medical College of Virginia, Class of 1955, with an M.D. He did his post-doctoral training-rotating internship in 1955 at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk. Academic appointments and other significant work include Family Practice, Virginia Beach, 1956 to present; Director of the Virginia Beach Family Practice Residency Training Program of the Medical College of Virginia; and Associate Clinical Professor of Family Practice, Medical College of Virginia. His affiliation with the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians include - delegate from 1982 to 1983, president 1981 to 1982, program chairman 1972 to 1989, member of the Board of Directors 1973 to 1975. He was delegate for 10 years to the Medical Society of Virginia. In 1962 he was president of the Virginia Beach Medical Society; past president of the Virginia Beach General Hospital Staff in 1964. He was co-director and co- founder of the Virginia Beach Emergency Coronary Care Program, with W. A. Dickinson, M.D. He was a medical advisor for the Virginia Beach Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Program, past chairman of the Virginia Beach Council of Volunteer Rescue Squads, past member and on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society of Va. Beach, past member and on the Board of Directors of the Tidewater Heart Association, co-recipient of a Federal Grant ($150,000) to establish the Virginia Beach Emergency Coronary Care Program, co-recipient of the VA. Beach Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award in 1974, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 1955, Blue Key National Honor Society in 1951 and co- recipient of the Va. Beach Safety Council Award in 1993. He did extensive research in colorectal cancer in recent years and was co-author of 60 CM Flexible Fiber-optic Colonscopy. He also co-authored Good Health Is No Accident, for the Va. Beach Rescue Squad and Family Practice in Virginia. He was a member of the Va. Beach United Methodist Church. He was the husband of Karen Hintz Charlton, and is survived by three sons, C. Ronald and wife, Debbie Mahoney Charlton, Hampton, Dr. W. Jeff and wife, Desiree Gardner Charlton, Va. Beach, and J. Barry and wife, Anne Bentley Charlton, Quinton; two stepdaughters, Colleen Elizabeth Mitchard and Kate Geraldine Mitchard; two granddaughters, Stephanie Charlton and Elizabeth Charlton; and three grandsons, Dustin, Michael and Cory Charlton. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, July 9, 1994, at 11 a.m. in Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, 19th St. and Pacific Ave., by the Rev. Dr. Paul C. Bailey and the Rev. Clark L. Mandigo. A private burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park, Va. Beach, Monday, July 11, 1994. Memorial donations may be made to the Va. Beach Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 945, Va. Beach, 23451. EANES, William Joseph (``Bill""), 64, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, July 6, 1994, in a local hospital. He was a member of Taylor Masonic Lodge #23 AF&AM. Surviving are his wife, Faye K. Eanes; three daughters, Kim E. Butterworth, Roanoke, Dawna Eanes, Bristol, Va., Billie E. Davis, Danville; two grandsons, Jamie Butterworth, Jacob Eanes; two granddaughters, Lauren Davis, Haeli Brown. MENSH, James William Jr. (``Billy,""), 37, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday evening, July 5, 1994, in a local hospital following a long illness. The funeral will be 11 a.m.. SHARER, Alan P., 67, of Hillsville, passed away, Thursday, July 7, 1994, at Hillsville, Va. Born February 11, 1927 in Idaho, the son of Grant Arthur Sharer and Ada Davis Sharer. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Gardner Sharer; daughters, Jerry Worrell, Hillsville, Elaine Rowlett, Martinez, CA; sons, Ernest A. Sharer, John J. Sharer and Kelly L. SMITH, Josphine Hayslett, 85, of Natural Bridge, died Thursday, July 7, 1994, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born in Rockbridge County on January 7, 1909, a daughter of the late James E. and Elizabeth Jane Moore Hayslett. She was a member of the Natural Bridge Baptist Church and was the widow of Emmett R. Smith, and was preceded in death by a son, Malcolm F. Smith. Surviving are five sons, Emory R. Smith, Roanoke, Calvin W. Smith, Natural Bridge, Cecil J. Smith, Raphine, Harold D. Smith, Natural Bridge Station, Albert J. Smith, Buchanan; one daughter, Miss Josephine E. Smith, Natural Bridge; one sister, Susie Smith, Buchanan; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 9, 1994 at 11 a.m. at the High Bridge Presbyterian Church in Natural Bridge with the Rev. Lee V. THOMAS, Phyllis Ridinger, 62, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, John (Jack) Warren Thomas in April of 1994. Mrs. Thomas is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Kathy A. Thomas Jr. of Troutville; a daughter, Suzanne Thomas of Richmond; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Ridinger and Marvin A. Doss of Blue Ridge; sisters-in-law, Helen T. Manning and Sue T. Dooley, both of Roanoke; one granddaughter, Holly Marie Thomas, and an aunt, Louise R. Tolbert of New Castle. UNDERWOOD, Lawrence E., 60, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, July 7, 1994, in a local hospital. Surviving are his wife, Alice B.
