2 FOOTBALL GAMES SOLD OUT AT UVA

The University of Virginia has sold more than 22,000 season tickets for the 1994 football season and expects to top 23,000 for the fourth consecutive year. Tickets have sold out for the home games against Clemson on Sept. 17 and North Carolina game on Oct. 22.

"Our season-ticket sale along with our commitment to those two schools has exhausted the supply of tickets for those games," said Dick Mathias, Virginia's Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Office Management.

Virginia has sold 22,021 season tickets so far. Single-game tickets for all of Virginia's home games except Clemson and North Carolina go on sale July 11 at a cost of $20 each. Orders for Virginia's six away games will also be accepted starting July 11.

In other sports in the region:

Scott Butcher, a former basketball player at Emory & Henry, has been awarded a $500 post-graduate scholarship from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Board of Officials Association.

Butcher, a Richlands native who plans on studying accounting at Virginia Tech, averaged 16 points and 6.3 repounds per game as a forward for the Wasps last season. The award is given annually to a senior basketball player from a conference institution.

Hermie Sadler, the 1993 Busch Grand National rookie of the year, will visit New River Valley Speedway tonight.

The Emporia driver will arrive at 4 p.m., and will stay throughout the evening to meet fans and sign autographs. In addition, he will bring his Virginia Is For Lovers GN car and hauler for the fans to see. The car and hauler will be displayed near the main grandstand.

On the track, the Late Model Stock Car drivers will duel for 100 laps in the Q-99-WSLC Radio/Tombstone Pizza 200. Also on tap are 35 laps for the Limited Sportsmen and 25 laps each for the Modified Mini, Mini and Pure Stock divisions.

Gates will open at 2 p.m. with the practice starting at 4 p.m. Time trials get underway at 6:15 p.m., with the first race at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

Eight divisions of racing, including the IMSA Modifieds, are on the card for Franklin County Speedway's Terminix 300 tonight in Callaway. An all-female race, which was postponed from Monday, will also take place.

Gates open at noon, qualifying is at 6 p.m and racing starts at 8. Admission is $5 for adults. There is no charge children 10 and under.
