DROWNED MAN'S BODY IS RECOVERED

Bedford County rescue workers recovered the body Friday of a Lexington man who drowned Thursday in the James River near the dam at Coleman Falls.

Rescue squads and members of the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries found the body of Richard L. Goodbar, 27, about 10 a.m. near the area where he was seen swimming by bystanders Thursday.

Goodbar had been swimming about 20 yards from shore when he disappeared from view, said Capt. John Heslep, a state game warden. Bystanders tried unsuccessfully to help him.
