Professional: Area superintendent in Fairfax County, 1992-93; superintendent's intern, Montgomery County Schools, Maryland, 1991; area superintendent, Fairfax County, 1982-90; administrative assistant to the division superintendent in Fairfax County, 1980-82; principal, assistant principal, biology teacher and athletic coach in Fairfax County schools, 1968-80.

Additional professional: Member of the American Association of School Administrators, National Black Child Development Institute, Phi Delta Kappa and the Virginia Admissions Council on Black Concerns.

Publications and honors: Seven articles in educational journals and magazines; eight awards from educational organizations, including Distinguished Administrator of the Year by the Virginia Educational Media Association, 1987.

Civic and community: Advisory Board for First Union National Bank for the Roanoke area; American Red Cross; National Drug Abuse Foundation; United Way of the National Capital Area; National Advisory Board on Urban Education.
