ROANOKE COLLEGE EX-TRUSTEE DIES

Roanoke native Hartselle DeBurney "Sam" Kinsey, a former member of the board of trustees of Roanoke College, died Saturday at his home in Scarsdale, N.Y.

Kinsey, a 1921 graduate of Roanoke College, served on the board for 25 years and was a trustee emeritus until his death. He also was chairman of two presidential search committees.

After earning a master's degree in chemical engineering, Kinsey worked for Union Carbide Corp. He retired as vice president of the corporation in 1966, after 42 years of service.

During World War II, Kinsey was involved in the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tenn., as manager and general superintendent of a plant that produced the major component for the atomic bomb.

A fund has been established in Kinsey's name at Roanoke College.
