VARNEY QUALIFIES 4TH

Nick Varney of Salem shot a 1-under-par 70 Monday to tie for third in qualifying in the 16-17 age division of the 20th Bobby Bowers Junior golf tournament at Springfield Country Club.

Varney, coming off a victory in last week's Haley Memorial, will be seeded fourth when today's 64-player match play begins. He will play Frances DeSouza of Clifton in today's first round.
