WOMAN DIES OF INJURIES FROM CRASH

Virginia Alice Bishop, the woman who drove the wrong way for several miles on Interstate 81 in Montgomery County last month, died Monday.

Bishop, 74, of South Franklin Street in Christiansburg, had been hospitalized since June 29 when her car crashed into a flatbed truck and a modular-home hauler after she drove up and down I-81 in the wrong direction for several miles.

Bishop died late Monday at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

Her confused trek caused several other minor wrecks.

Bishop was flown to the hospital for treatment of serious head injuries. The two truck drivers were not injured.

Bishop's son, Jack Bishop, said last week that his mother's condition had deteriorated after she apparently had a stroke during her stay at the hospital.
