ADKINS, Ruby Elizabeth, of Edinburg Square, Roanoke, died Wednesday, July 13, 1994 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Pulaski on August 30, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Robert Joseph Adams and Ida Alexander Adams. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Glenna Snead, Roanoke; nieces, Judy Shaver and Bobbie Cole, Christiansburg, Marsha Clingenpeel, Roanoke, Kathy Martin, Vinton, Robyn Ward, Salem; nephews, Steve Santolla, Denver, Colo., Mike Vessey, San Diego, Calif., Robert Vessey and wife, Frances, Roanoke; six great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Santolla and a brother, Hensel Adams. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, July 15, 1994 in Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski with the Rev. William R. Harding III officiating. Friends may call Thursday at Oakey's North Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

ARTHUR, Robert Tillman Jr., 66, of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Monday, July 11, 1994 . He was born February 28, 1928 in Tampa, Fla., a son of the late Robert T. Arthur and Margaret Jane McAdory Arthur of Friendswood, Texas. He was a retired Telephone Maintainer for N & W Railroad after 35 years. Mr. Arthur was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, James Dickey Post #23 American Legion, and IBEW member. He was married January 24, 1951 in Roanoke, Va. and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Monseur, August 26, 1988. Surviving are sons, James O. Arthur of Stout, and Ronald J. Arthur of Portsmouth; daughters, Margaret K irk of Columbus, Ohio, and Patricia Lemley of Columbus, Ohio; brother, John Arthur, Friendswood, Texas; sister, Margaret Lescure, Roanoke; 5 grandchildren. A wake service will be held Wednesday 8:30 p.m. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 1994, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Portsmouth, Ohio, with the Rev. Jack Maynard officiating. BISHOP, Virginia Miles, 74, of Christiansburg, died Monday, July 11, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. She was the wife of Carl S. Bishop and was a native of Montgomery County. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, from the Richardson-Horne Chapel with burial in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad. BOTTS, Frances Gregory, 72, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, July 13, 1994 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was the widow of William M. Botts Jr. and was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William M. Botts III and Myra N. Botts, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two granddaughters, Tracie L. Botts, Roanoke, Gretchen M. Botts, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brother, Grady P. Gregory, Roanoke; nephew, Steve Gregory, Bedford Co.; niece, Robin Gregory, Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services will be conducted at the grave 11:30 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. William R. Klein officiating. COMBS, Tommy A., 62, of Vinton, died Wednesday, July 13, 1994, in a local hospital. He retired from the Kroger Co. and was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his wife, Mary C. Combs; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda Hill, Lake City, Tenn., Phyllis Alderson, Vinton, Penny and Kenny Graham, Troutville, Denise and Perry Blankenship, Rocky Mount; four granddaughters and one grandson; one great-granddaughter; sister, Mary Barker, Bristol, Tenn. NYCE, Hortense Agee, 79, of Chesapeake, formerly of Roanoke, died Monday, July 11, 1994. She was retired from Lewis Gale Hospital. Surviving are two sons, Luther D. Agee of Yorktown, Va., Walter S. Agee of Chesapeake, Va.; six sisters, Mildred Biegar, Blanche Hicks, Beatrice Ware, all of Franklin County, Clydie Guilliams, of Roanoke, Betty Jane Dowell of East Bend, N.C., Beulah Eatmon of Norfolk; five brothers, Cecil Wright, George Wright, Leroy Wright, all of Roanoke, Norman Wright and Franklin Wright, both of Franklin County; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. PATTERSON, Elwood, 87, of Buena Vista, died Monday, July 11, 1994 in Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born September 22, 1906 in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late Charles McClung Patterson and Deliah Clements Patterson. He was a veteran of World War II; a member of American Legion Post 126 and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by four brothers and a sister, Hansford Patterson, Raymond Patterson, Lawrence Patterson, Curtis Patterson, and Effie Patterson Wiseman. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Patterson Dixon, Lexington; four grandchildren, Diana Dixon, Lexington, Marilyn Dixon, Pamela Dixon and Bruce Dixon Jr., all of Richmond, three great-grandchildren, Deann Bishop, Richmond, Tav Sensabaugh, Lexington, William Knick IV, Richmond; three siste rs, Louise Boley, Roanoke, Leona Bishop, Fontana, Calif., and Marion Bishop, Apalachicola, Fla.; a good friend, Malley Hickman. PRICE, George Alex, Jr., 69, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, July 13, 1994, at Radford Community Hospital. He was born May 8, 1925, to the late George Alex, Sr. and Grace Epperly Price. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant as a scale mechanic. Mr. Price was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Price Watson. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Shaver Price; a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest L. and Linda Price, of Mt. Tabor; grandchildren, Tamela and Tim Mccoy, of McCoy, Tina Price, of Mt. Tabor, Anthony and Geneva Watson, of Christiansburg; great-grandson, Luke Anthony Watson, of Christiansburg; his mother-in-law, Minnie Shaver, of Blacksburg; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and James Ivory Alls, of Christiansburg, Arjetta and Bill Caldwell, of New Castle, Anne and Sonny Comer, of Christiansburg. SMITH, June Ross, 69, of 2215 Wardensville Grade, Winchester, died Tuesday, July 12, 1994, in Winchester Medical Center. Mrs. Smith was born on January 8, 1925, in Elliston, Virginia, the daughter of the late Fitzhugh Lee and Janet Apgar Ross. She was a retired accountant. She was a graduate of Roanoke College and a member of the Colesville Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring, Md., where she served as treasurer for 17 years. She was a member of Phi Chi Psi Sorority. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Foster Smith whom she married August 30, 1946, in Lafayette, Virginia; five children, Patricia S. Devecka of Boalsburg, Pa., Stephen R. Smith and Barry Scott Smith both of Winchester, Douglas F. Smith of Baltimore, Md., David L. Smith of Evergreen, CO, and six grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 1 p.m. at Lafayette United Methodist Church, Lafayette, Virginia with Rev. David Lagerfeld officiating. STEWART, Dewey W., (``Butch''), 41, of California, formerly of Vinton, died Sunday, July 10, 1994. He was a graphic artist; also a word processor for a law firm in California. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul H. Stewart. He was the son of Dennis W. and Geraldine Stewart, Vinton. Survivors include two brothers, Bill Stewart, Moneta, the Rev. Albert Stewart, Roanoke; five sisters, Doris Harrison, Memphis, Tenn., Helen Underwood, Blue Ridge, Ann Archer, Memphis, Tenn., Ursel Martin, Vinton; Inez Scaggs, Salem; a special friend, Mrs. Kelly, several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 1994 at the New Testament Baptist Church in Vinton conducted by Dr. J. E. Edwards. Burial to be private. TURMAN, Elijah G., (``Buck''), 67, of Rt. 1, Laurel Fork, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 1994. He is the beloved son of Callie DeHart Turman of the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart and the late Montie Turman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Verna Mae West. He leaves behind a loving wife of 45 years, Ava Nester Turman of the home; two daughters who were so special to him, Mrs. Jim (Diane) Dalton of Rt. 1, Laurel Fork and Mrs. Jimmy (Bonnie) Goad of Rt. 2, Meadows of Dan; three stepchildren will be forever grateful for his love and guidance, Ms. Jeri (Jerlene) C. Ferguson of Lackey Rd., Collinsville, James L. (J.L.) Cox of Rt. 1, Laurel Fork, Mrs. Freamo (Joyce) Goad of Rt. 1, Laurel Fork; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, who will miss their ``Pa'' very much; one half brother, Silas Turman of Meadows of Dan; two half sisters, Maude Middleton of Madison, N.C. and Lilia Smith of Albuquerque, N. M.; one niece and one nephew. He also will be sadly missed by other family members, friends, neighbors and fellow democrats. Mr. Turman was retired from Roadway in 1984 as an over-the-road driver, and was a member of Teamsters Local 391 in Kernersville, N.C. He was a member of Tory Creek Baptist Church in Laurel Fork, where the funeral will be held Friday, July 15, 1994, 2 p.m. conducted by the Revs. Tommy Willis and Harris Easter. Interment will follow in the Webb Family Cemetery. The Turman family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
