SALEM MAN GETS 2 YEARS IN BANK FRAUD

A Salem man who pleaded guilty to bank fraud was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison.

U.S. District Judge James Turk also ordered Roy Marlin Adams to repay Salem Bank and Trust $3,071 and remain on probation for three years after he gets out of jail.

Adams, who also has gone by the names Mark Charman and Paul Charman, was arrested in March after police approached him at the United Parcel Service facility on Thirlane Road.

A two-count indictment charged that Adams thought up a complicated scheme using counterfeit checks and bogus checking accounts to steal more than $30,000 from the Salem bank.

The federal government has seized assets, including a Jaguar sports car, from Adams. He is the former owner of Olympic Trophy and Engraving.
