PULASKI COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD LOOKS AT CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES

They were drawn up by a group of teachers, principals, program coordinators, department chairmen and central office staff over the past three years, and cover kindergarten through high school.

The objectives list the achievements expected of students as they complete each grade level in each subject area.

They are too detailed and voluminous to be put into a single document, but they're outlined on large posters displayed in each school. The public is welcome to see them at any time.

The poster displays also are meant as a visual guide so teachers and students can see what students are supposed to have mastered at any point.

School Board members received packets Wednesday night with large fold-out charts outlining the objectives for for math, language arts, science, social studies, physical education and health, art and music.

Shirley Cook, who is retiring this summer as director of curriculum and instruction, has been one of those most directly involved in coming up with the objectives. She will continue working with them on a part-time basis.

In other business, board members re-elected Ron Chaffin as School Board chairman, and Dr. Nathan Tuck, vice chairman. They learned that the eight finalists for Draper Elementary School principal have been reduced to two, who will be interviewed before a recommendation is made.
