The Salem Buccaneers no doubt agree with that theory, having allowed 10 home runs in their three-game series against the Spirits the past three days.
Friday night, Winston-Salem capped off a sweep with a 13-5 pounding of the Bucs aided by four home runs.
The Spirits have 157 homers, three shy of tying the Carolina League mark of 160 they set last season. Winston-Salem has 46 games remaining.
After spotting the Bucs a 2-0 lead on Jake Austin's two-run home run in the first inning, Winston-Salem scored 13 runs.
Mike Meggers provided the big blow in a four-run third with a three-run homer, giving the Spirits a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dan Frye blasted a solo home run as the Spirits went up 6-2.
And in a six-run sixth, Mike Harrison had a leadoff homer and Toby Rumfield added a three-run blast as Winston-Salem turned the game into a rout, taking a 12-2 lead.
Meggers' home run was his 20th and Rumfield's was his 18th.
Salem added to the misery by committing five errors. Third baseman Jay Cranford committed his 32nd, second baseman Chance Sanford booted his 29th, shortstop Ramon Zapata had his 15th and catcher Jason Kendall committed his seventh and eighth.
On the mound, Winston-Salem's Chad Fox (10-3), allowed four runs and six hits in seven innings. He also struck out nine. Salem starter Marc Wilkins (4-5) last 3 innings, allowing five hits and six runs, five unearned.
