Exchange families
EF Educational Homestay Programs, a non-profit student exchange organization, is searching for families in the New River Valley to share their home and culture with a French student Aug. 2-Aug. 22. Nine of 34 students ranging in age from 15 to 19 remain to be placed with families.
Maggie Hagedorn, the local program coordinator, is looking for homes with at least two people, one a responsible adult over 25 years old. English must be the primary language spoken in the home. No French language skills are necessary. The students are very proficient in English.
Host families may choose the student to stay with them from a list of student profiles that describe interests and hobbies. The families may communicate with the student before the arrival date.
A supervisor, also placed in the area, will travel with the students to mediate any language or adjustment problems that may arise. The students are fully insured and bring their own spending money. Host families are asked to provide room, board and an open learning environment. The amount of supervision for each student varies with his or her age.
The students want to become part of the families they stay with during the visit. No classes are scheduled during the stay, so the students are free to travel with the host families.
For more information or to set up an interview, call Maggie Hagedorn at 552-5146.
