ROANOKE TEEN-AGER JUMPS TO HIS DEATH

A 17-year-old Roanoke boy jumped off the Wasena bridge to his death Saturday night.

City police Maj. J.L. Viar said police were notified about 10:30 that someone had jumped. The boy was found lying unconscious on Wiley Road.

The boy, whose name was not released by police, died from severe internal injuries on the way to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

A witness said the boy was standing alone on the bridge. The boy took his baseball cap off and placed it on the bridge wall, then jumped over the wall.

The boy's mother told police she had no idea that anything was wrong when her son said good night and went to bed.
