BENNETT, Myrtle Richards, 79, of Rocky Mount, Va., died Monday, July 18, 1994, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was born November 28, 1914, the daughter of the late Shade and Rosa Brich Richards. The widow of Luther Bennett who died in 1986. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Lester, Rocky Mount, Va. and Linda Way, Fredericksburg, Va., one son, James D. Bennett, Rocky Mount, Va.; two sisters, Hilda Strickler, Rocky Mount, Va., Izma Whitby, Roanoke, VA; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral servic will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 1994, at Lynch Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. H.K. Seemann officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. CANDLER, Annie Mae Morrison, 85, of Rich Creek, Va., died Sunday, July 17, 1994, at Pearisburg, Va., hospital. Born March 29, 1909 in Giles County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin C. and Margaret Cecil Morrison. Mrs. Candler was a retired employee of the Hoechst- Celanese Corp., Narrows, Va., having worked there for 39 years. She was a member of the Rich Creek United Methodist Church, Rich Creek, VA., where she was a member of the Mary Martha Ladies Circle, and was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxillary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Candler, Sr.; two brothers, Paul and Walter Morrison; and one sister; Bernice Chandler Woods. Survivors include one son, Robert Candler, Jr., of Narrows, Va.; five daughters, Mrs. Phil (Bobbie) Nowels of Waukegon, Il, Mrs. Carmel (Tiny) Stollings of Kenosha, Wis., Mrs. Calvin (Jean) Wickline of Bordhead, Wis., Mrs. Garnett (Lois) Parcell of Narrows, Va. and Mrs. Colonel (Dorothy) Dunn of Peterstown, WVa.; one brother; Benny Morrison of Rich Creek, Va.; and five sisters, Mary Buckland and Geneva DeFio, both of Rich Creek, VA., Polly Fox of Ansted, WV, Hazel Williams of Atlanta, Ga., and Dorothy Thornton of Salem, Va; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. HAWK, Edna Pauline, 64, of Ceres, died Monday morning at her home in the Lick Creek Community. She was a native of Wilder, Va., a graduate of Rural Retreat High School and had lived most of her life in Smyth County. Survivors include her husband, Lester Joe Hawk, Ceres; four sons, Danny Hawk, Ceres, Tim Hawk, Bellcourt, N.D., Jack Hawk, Ceres, Kenny Hawk, Ceres; one sister, Nancy Anders, Marion; one brother, Gerald Purcell, Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. PETTINGER, A. Michael, died Sunday, July 17, 1994. He was a retired transportation engineer with V.D.O.T. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty A. Pettinger. Mr. Pettinger was a well known figure in Richmond theatrical circles having performed with the Barksdale Theatre, the Patrick Henry Reenactment, the John Rolfe Players, the Shakespeare Players and others. He is survived by his mother, Bernice Pettinger; one sister, Mary P. Rust; brother-in-law, Breck V. Rust; and three nephews all of Raleigh, N.C. A memorial service will be held at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, on Wednesday, July 20 at 11:30 a.m. after which the family will greet friends. RUFF, Mildred Thomas, 79, of Clarksville, Va., died Monday, July 18, 1994 in Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston, VA. She was the widow of Frank M. Ruff, Sr. Mrs. Ruff, a native of Iredell County, N.C., resided in Clarksville the last six years of her life. She raised her family and taught school in the Thaxton Community of Bedford County, Va. She is survived by two daughters, Amanda R. Gaskill of Manteo, North Carolina and Mary Elizabeth R. Hannah of Manchester, Missouri; one son, Delegate Frank M. Ruff, Jr., who represents the 61st District in the Virginia House of Delegates of Clarksville, Va.; one sister, Helen T. Hassler of Raleigh, N.C. and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
