PHILADELPHIA WAIVES DIXON

Mark Dixon, a first-team All-American at Virginia last season, was waived Tuesday by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dixon, a 6 feet 31/4, 290-pound guard from Jamestown, N.C., was not selected in the NFL draft in April and later signed with the Eagles as a free agent.

The former Cavaliers co-captain recently underwent his third back operation after an injury following Philadelphia's minicamp in May.

Dixon, also an All-ACC selection, was a mainstay in UVa's line before being suspended for the final regular season game and the Cavaliers' Blockbuster Bowl game for academic reasons.
