SALEM ATHLETE AWARDED HONOR BY RANDOPH-MACON

Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal has named Salem's Christopher Matthew Hershman as its 1993-94 Male Athlete of the Year. He was selected by coaches and the administration.

Hershman played baseball and football at Randolph-Macon. Playing defensive back in football, he was name to the Division II Virginia Independent School All-State team after intercepting seven passes.

Hershman was his team's leading scorer, reaching the end zone in just about every possible way. He returned interceptions, caught passes and returned fumbles for touchdowns. His longest touchdown was a 90-yard interception return.

He was a pitcher in baseball, going 5-3 in a year that included a one-hitter and a no-hitter. He averaged more than one strikeout per inning and hit .407. When not pitching, Hershman played outfield.

Academically, Hershman was a dean's list performer. He will attend West Virginia University. Hershman resides at 2816 Titleist Drive in Salem.
