THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Janet Jackson will donate proceeds from two shows at Radio City Music Hall this week toward an airlift for the refugees who are dying by the thousands of hunger and disease in refugee camps in Zaire.

"I wanted to act immediately, knowing that people are dying by the minute," she said in a statement. "My heart goes out to the people of Rwanda."

\ Roseanne and Tom Arnold have split, but that doesn't mean the walls will come tumbling down.

The Victorian mansion on their 2,000-acre estate - designed to be the largest in Iowa - still has no roof or siding. Construction stopped in June.

"Believe me, it won't be left half-finished," Tom Arnold told The Des Moines Register.

\ Band leader Cab Calloway, 86, has been released from White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital to a facility where he is recovering from a stroke.

"He is recuperating near the home of one of his daughters," hospital spokeswoman Melissa Weisstuch said Tuesday. "I'm delighted he's able to move on to further care, as I'm sure his fans are."
