Corrections

A story Tuesday about the death of George Lewis Pitzer, former chairman of the board of Pitzer Transfer and Storage, contained incorrect information. Pitzer neither graduated from Roanoke College nor played football at the school. He graduated from the University of Virginia.

Officials at the Yokohama Tire Corp. plant in Salem, not striking workers, turned away delivery trucks Monday. Because of a copy editor's error, a photo caption Tuesday contained incorrect information.

Because incorrect information was supplied to the newspaper, the age-group record-setter for the Commonwealth Games of Virginia male age 15-19 five-mile run was listed incorrectly in Sunday's editions. Jason Dowdy of Roanoke set the mark in 27 minutes, four seconds.

Leigh Anna Fry of Salem tied for second and received a silver medal in the girls 15-18 high jump during the Commonwealth Games' track meet. Her name was omitted from Monday's results.

Michelle Cook finished fourth in her division of the Commonwealth Games' soap box derby. Her position was reported incorrectly in in Sunday's editions.

An Associated Press story about reaction to the movie ``The Lion King'' included incorrect information about columnist Neil Chethik.

Chethik is a syndicated columnist whose work is distributed through Universal Press Syndicate to 40 newspapers, including The Detroit Free Press.

Because of an editor's error, a story in Tuesday Extra about the Bill Wharton performance at the Coffee Pot in Roanoke gave the wrong concert date. The performance is Aug. 3

Because incorrect information was given to the newspaper, Tuesday's Mingling column had the wrong phone number for the Andrew Braford trust fund at N&W Credit Union. The correct phone number is 982-8811.
