Sign up for food

RADFORD - The New River Community Action's food sign up is under way at the First Christian Church on Tyler and Clement streets.

Applicants will receive 20-25 pounds of food for $13.49 or $13 in food stamps. The sign up will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon through Friday and again from Monday to Thursday.

Playmakers tryouts

BLACKSBURG - Playmakers and Company will hold open auditions Monday, Aug. 1 and Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Playmakers Playhouse in the University Mall.

Four parts, two male and two female, remain to be cast for the upcoming production of "Guilty Conscience," a play of suspense by Richard Levinson and William Link.

Arts Adventure

RADFORD - Radford University's Arts Adventure 1994 for children will be held Aug. 1-5, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with a break for swimming at the Dedmon Center and a picnic lunch.

On Friday, Aug. 5, 5 p.m. the children will present a production of "Around the World in 63 Minutes" in the Porterfield Studio Theatre. Admission is free.

Pat Horne of Christiansburg will direct. She will be assisted by Patricia Clevenger, Laura Hodges and Jennie Russell.

NRCC gets grant

DUBLIN - New River Community College has received a federal grant which will be used to provide Computerized Numerical Control machine operations technology training to 10 individuals within the college's service area who are employed and are receiving some form of welfare assistance.

The training will begin in August and continue through spring 1995. Priority will be given to Aid to Dependent Children recipients.

An informational meeting and campus tour will take place at New River Community College on Thursday in Godbey Hall, room 142, 10 a.m.
