REPORTED EARNINGS

Kollmorgen Corp.

Kollmorgen Corp., Waltham, Mass., parent of Inland Motors and Industrial Drives in Radford, reported net income of $1.2 million, or 6 cents per share, on sales of $49.8 million for the second quarter, compared with year-earlier income of $1 million, or 4 cents, on sales of $48.2 million.

For the six months, net income was $2 million, or 9 cents per share, on sales of $93.9 million, against net income of $575,000, equal to a loss of 6 cents, on sales of $93.7 million.

CorVel Corp.

CorVel Corp., Irvine, Calif., provider of medical cost containment and managed care services with operations in Roanoke, Rocky Mount and Wytheville, reported net income of $1.3 million, or 30 cents per share, for its first quarter ended June 30. That compares with $918,000, or 22 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenues were $22.1 million compared with $18.9 million.

Fieldcrest Cannon

Fieldcrest Cannon Inc., Eden, N.C., textile maker operating a towel mill in Henry County, reported second-quarter net income of $6.7 million, or 56 cents per share, down from $7.1 million, or 55 cents per share, a year earlier. Net sales were $254.8 million, down from $256.5 million.

For the first six months, net income was $12.2 million, or $1.15 per share, against a loss of $9.5 million. Sales were $487.1 million.

Washington Post Co.

The Washington Post Co., Washington parent of Stanley H. Kaplan Educational Center Ltd. in Blacksburg, reported second-quarter net income of $41.3 million, or $3.54 per share, up from $37.9 million, or $3.23 a share, a year earlier. Revenues were $404.8 million, up from $376.7 million.

For the first six months, net income was $70.1 million, or $5.99 per share, down from $78.1 million, or $5.65 per share. Revenues were $763.3 million, up from $738.4 million.

Walt Disney Co.

Walt Disney Co., Burbank, Calif., entertainment company proposing a theme park in Northern Virginia, reported net earnings of $267.5 million, or 49 cents per share, in its third quarter ended June 30. That compares with $259.1 million, or 48 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenues rose to $2.4 billion from $1.94 billion.

For the nine-month period, earnings were $884.5 million, $1.62 per share, compared with $749 million, or $1.37 per share, a year earlier. Revenue was $7.4 billion, up 16 percent from $6.4 billion a year ago.

Ground Round Restaurants

Ground Round Restaurants Inc., Boston-based chain with a unit in Roanoke County, reported earnings of $1.6 million, or 14 cents per share, on revenue of $60.7 million in its third quarter ended July 3, compared to year-earlier $1.4 million, or 12 cents, on revenues of $55.8 million. For the first nine months, earnings were $4.7 million, or 42 cents, on revenue of $182.8 million, compared to $4.0 million, or 36 cents per share, on revenue of $174.4 million.

Buffets Inc.

Buffets Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn. operator of Old Country Buffets restaurants including one in Roanoke County, reported net earnings of $6.9 million, or 22 cents per share, in its second quarter ended July 14, compared to $5.1 million or 17 cents a year earlier. Sales rose to $98.9 million from $77.7 million. For its first half-year, Buffets reported earnings of $12.9 million, or 41 cents, compared with $9.7 million, or 32 cents per shrae.

DuPont

DuPont, Wilmington, Del. operator of a nylon mill in Martinsville, reported net income for the second quarter of $792 million, or $1.16 per share, up from $516 million, or 76 cents per share, a year earlier. Sales rose to $10.2 billion from $9.55 billion. For the first half, earnings were $1.43 billion, or $2.10 per share, compared to $1 billion, or $1.49 per share. Sales for the half were $19.35 billion compared to $$18.62 billion.
