W&L NAMES ASSISTANT COACH

Jami Dansingburg has been named an assistant coach for women's soccer and lacrosse at Washington and Lee.

Dansingburg, a recent graduate of William Smith College, replaces Sue Behme, who left W&L to become head women's soccer coach at University of the South.

Dansingburg was a standout soccer goalie at William Smith and helped the Herons reach the NCAA Division III Final Four last season. William Smith was 18-0-2 before losing to eventual national champion Trenton State on penalty kicks in a semifinal.

Dansingburg was team captain and was an all-region goalie in 1993. Dansingburg, a native of Norwich, N.Y., will begin her duties at W&L in August.

In other sports in the region:

The Roanoke Star under-15 White boys' soccer team went 1-1-1 in three games ending Wednesday at the prestigious Dana Cup in Hjorinng, Denmark.

Adam Maneen had two goals and goalie Ryan Caya got credit for the shutout as Roanoke rolled to a 6-0 victory over Nolsfk, Sweden.

In Crewe, Amherst rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Cave Spring 8-7 and win the state championship of girls' Dixie Pony Tail softball.
