BUCHANAN, Archibald C. Jr., Dr., of Abingdon, died Friday, July 29, 1994. Graveside service Monday 11 a.m., Maplewood Cemetery. Arrangements by Farris Funeral Service.

CHAFIN, Hazel Virginia, 87, of Riner, died Friday, July 29, 1994. Funeral 1 p.m. Sunday at the Pilot United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.

COCKE, Eloise Kelly, 87, of Roanoke, died Friday, July 29, 1994 at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg. She was the daughter of Joseph L. Kelly and Mary Graham Hull Kelly, of Bristol, Va. and was the wife of Charles L. Cocke, of Roanoke, all of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Cocke was a graduate of Hollins College. She was a long time resident of Roanoke, where she taught piano for many years. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Coxe, Lynchburg; brother, Joseph L. Kelly, Norfolk; son and daughter-in-law, C. Lewis Cocke and Enid Obee Cocke, Manhattan, Kan.; and granddaughters, Erica Cocke, Seattle, Wash., Meagan Cocke, Manhattan, Kan. A graveside service will be held at the Cocke Family Cemetery at Hollins College, Tuesday, August 2, at 5 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas O'Dell officiating. Arrangements by Diuguid Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

CRAFT, Kenneth Neal, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 1994. He returned to Roanoke a final time this weekend. A native of Roanoke, he stayed close in touch with his family and friends. Throughout his life he visited the Shenandoah Valley every summer. His career as the manager of various corporate information systems took him to several cities along the eastern seaboard, the last twenty having been in Miami, Florida. Ken was educated at William Fleming High School and in the United States Air Force. He served in an ``Early Warning'' Installation near the Arctic Circle during the Cold War. He also served as a Trustee of the Seventeenth Street Baptist Mission in Southeast Roanoke, where he met his brid e, Jean Gray. He is survived by his wife, Jean Gray; by his sons, Neal Jr. and Kevin; by his grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, Ryan and Haley and by his brother, Howard all of South Florida. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 10 a.m. Monday, August 1, 1994. His family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home on Franklin Road, Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and again at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, where he will be returned to Mother Earth. His soul has departed his spirit will forever remain with his family.

DAVIS, Myrtle Peters, 87, of Martinsville, died Saturday, July 30, 1994. Funeral services 2 p.m. Monday, McKee Funeral Chapel.

FOSTER, James Houston, 60, of Richmond, died Saturday, July 30, 1994, at his home, following a lengthy illness. He was a retired Bell Atlantic executive. Mr. Foster started his career with C&P Telephone Company of Virginia in 1956. Following three years of service in the United States Air Force, he returned to C&P Telephone, where he held positions in Richmond, Roanoke and New York before retiring as Division Traffic Manager for Operator Services of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Foster served on the Board of Trustees for the United Way of Richmond as Chairman of the Finance Committee and as Chairman of the Budget and Allocations Committee. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Senior Center of Richmond, the VCU Foundation Board of Trustees and the Board of Trustess of the Bon Air Rotary Club. He was a former Junior and Senior Warden of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and a present member of Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and coached baseball and football in the Huguenot Little League and Bon Air Southampton Quarterback Club. He was a member of Willow Oaks Country Club. Mr. Foster was born on August 4, 1933, in Buena Vista, Va. A graduate of the 1956 class of Virginia Military Institute, he was a class officer and served for many years as class agent. He is survived by his wife, Martha Grae (Motsy) Foster, of Richmond; his children, Dr. J. Daniel Foster, G. Dean Foster and Mrs. Beverley Grae MacDowell, all of Richmond; his six grandchildren, all of Richmond; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Foster, of Buena Vista; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Anne Smith, also of Buena Vista. The family will receive friends at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd. from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, with burial and graveside service to be held at at 3 p.m. in Greenhill Cemetery, Buena Vista. The family suggests contributions to the Metropolitan Blood Service, the Leukemia Society or the VMI Foundation.

HANKINS, Clifton, (``Giggs""), 63, of Collinsville, died Saturday, July 30, 1994. Funeral Monday 11 a.m. Collins Funeral Chapel, Bassett.

LYLE, William Henry, 64, of Roanoke, died Friday, July 29, 1994. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Virgie Lyle. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia A. and Ray Sigmon, Linda K. and Frank Smith, all of Roanoke; stepdaughter and husband, Joyce and and Ray Bousman, Hardy; brother, Tommy Lyle, Bonsack; sisters, Virginia Woolridge, Vinton, and Nannie Hall, Roanoke; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. tuesday at Sherwood Memorial Park by the Rev. Robert Sadler. The family will receive friends Sunday or Monday at the Lotz Vinton Chapel.

OWENS, Rachel Davis, 72, of New Castle, died Friday, July 29, 1994, at Liberty House Nursing Home, Clifton Forge. She was born May 19, 1922 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Bal and Marietta Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Owens; two sons, Danny Owens and Gary Owens; one brother, Ernest C. Davis; one sister, Hazel Davis. She is survived by four sons, Randolph Mitchell Owens, Luther Owens Jr., Jessee Colen Owens, all of Richmond, and Barry Monroe Owens, New Castle; five daughters, Connie Owens Smith, Covington, Brenda Owens Kendall, Hilda Owens Harless, and Helen Owens Harless, Patricia Owens Tingler, all of New Castle; six brothers, Clyde Monroe Davis, Bal lard J. Davis, Jessee Ballard Davis, Thomas G. Davis, John Wayne Davis, Harry Lyle Davis; two sisters, Charlotte Davis Hubbard and Ruby Davis Wolfe; 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be conducted Monday, August 1, 1994, 2 p.m., at Boitnott Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Crawford Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

ROSE, Eugene Wesley, 83, of Chesterfield, formerly of Roanoke, died Saturday, July 30, 1994. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Elizabeth Schmuck. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Rose; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Robert Colbe, Chesterfield; sons and daughter-in-law, Arlin and Brenda Rose, Chesterfield, Phillip Rose, Colonial Heights; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Miller, Audrey Spangler, both of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel, by the Rev. L. E. Humrick, with burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

SHARP, Edith Shaffer, 93, of Roanoke, died Thursday, July 28, 1994. A native of West Virginia, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Shaffer. Mrs. Sharp was a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kimball, W.Va. Surviving are her son, Harold Shaffer, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Karen Seagle of California, Larissa Arnold, Roanoke, Judy Shaffer, Vermont; great-grandchildren, Summer Seagle, Derek Arnold, Brian Arnold. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Otis L. Burgher and the Rev. R. C. Wilson. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, W.Va. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.

STUMP, Heaven-Ley, infant daughter of Dallas and Rebecca Stump Jr. of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 30, 1994. Other survivors include her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Dallas W. Stump Sr.; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Jerry F. Ferguson; uncle, Matthew Ferguson; aunt, Jessica Ferguson; great-grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. L. D. Harlow Sr., Mrs. Jennie Ferguson and Ms. Moncella Gray. SUTPHIN, Almeda Williams Creasey, of Christiansburg, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord Saturday morning, July 30, 1994 at 6:30 a.m. from the Richfield Nursing Center, after a long illness. Born to the late George and Minnie Wheeling Williams, seventy-eight years ago, she was one of eleven children and a niece raised in the Sweet Spring Hol low of Montgomery County. She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jean and Fred Shores, Christiansburg; a stepson, Bernard C. Sutphin, Shreveport, La.; a grandson and his wife, James and Vickie Shores, Alexandria; two granddaughters, Vicki and husband, Stan Perkins and Michele Shores, all of Christiansburg; two stepgranddaughters; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Laura Shores, Alexandria; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Roxie Williams, Luther and Margaret Williams, all of Shawsville; one sister, Mary Rogers, Salem; special niece and her husband, Merthel and Loving Creed, Shawsville; many more nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God, Canaan Road, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. Ron Mitchell. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Devotion. Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, or the First Church of God, 650 Canaan Rd., Christiansburg, Va. 24073. There will be no evening visitation at the funeral home.
