NAMES & CHANGES

Explore Park gets manager

GEORGE W. NESTER of Vinton has been appointed general manager of Virginia's Explore Park. Nester will be responsible for management of park operations. Rupert Cutler, who is chief executive officer of both the River Foundation and the Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority, will oversee Explore's long-range planning, state and national fund raising, and community and government relations.

Nester, a certified professional manager and planner, has been town manager of Vinton, city manager of Covington and town manager of Ashland.

Also, ANDREA L. BORK of Blacksburg has been appointed director of development at Explore Park. She previously was director of development for the Washington County Humane Society and development assistant for the Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg, Wis.

JEFFREY B. COCKERL, formerly of Salisbury, N.C., has been appointed architectural historian on the education staff of the park. He will conduct research to document the histories of the park's Blue Ridge settlement structures, be an exhibit interpreter and provide outreach to the black community of the Roanoke Valley.

BANKING

DAVID A. CAMPER has been promoted to senior vice president and regional manager of Central Fidelity Bank in Roanoke. He joined Central Fidelity in 1992 and worked in the employee benefit sales area in the bank's financial services group. He formerly was vice president of Dominion Trust Co. for eight years.

WILLIAM S. FRALIN has been named assistant vice president of First Union Bank of Virginia's trust department in McLean. Fralin previously was a trust officer with the bank. Before joining First Union, the Roanoke native was an account executive at Benefits Marketing Group of Chevy Chase, Md.

HOSPITALITY

RODERICK F. BENNETT has been named director of convention services for The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs. He will be responsible for overall coordination and implementation of conventions and special functions. Before joining The Homestead, Bennett was assistant general manager and food and beverage director for the Omni West Palm Beach hotel in Florida.

MANUFACTURING

KIMBERLY A. DELSING has been appointed chairman of Unilever Prestige Personal Products and president and chief executive officer of Elizabeth Arden Co., both of New York City. She formerly was president and chief executive officer of Unilever's Calvin Klein Cosmetics Co. Elizabeth Arden has manufacturing and distribution facilities in Roanoke.

MEDIA

HOWIE PETRUZIELLO has been named assistant program director and DAVE O'BRIEN has been appointed music director at WROV radio station in Roanoke. Also, VICKI SHREWSBURY has joined the WROV staff as promotions director. HELEN CUNNINGHAM has been promoted from news director to community relations director.

NONPROFITS

The Council of Community Services has selected new officers for 1994-95: RICHARD D. LUCAS, Woods, Rogers & Hazlegrove, president; MICHAEL M. WALDVOGEL, Waldvogel, Poe & Cronk, first vice president; JAN B. GARRETT, community volunteer, second vice president; DEBBIE BUCKLAND, Crestar Bank, third vice president; MICHAEL W. COFFMAN, Shenandoah Life Insurance Co., secretary; and R. DANIEL CARSON JR., Appalachian Power Co., treasurer. New board members are SANDRA D. BLAKE, Central Fidelity Bank; the REV. CARLOTTA B. COCHRAN, St. John's Episcopal Church, Roanoke; ROBERT FRANTZ, Signet Bank; LARRY LACROIX, The Kroger Co.; CATHY GREENBERG, community volunteer; and RUSTAM WADIA, NationsBank.

TRANSPORTATION

GERALD WINGO has been appointed manager of Intex Aviation Services' cargo and mail handling operation for USAir at Roanoke Regional Airport. The Greenville, S.C.-based company provides maintenance, janitorial and aviation services for airlines and corporations throughout the United States. Wingo retired from Piedmont Airlines/USAir after 31 years of service.

TERRELL SMITH of Vinton has joined Security Transport and Delivery Services Inc. as operations manager. He will be responsible for sales, customer service and daily operations. Smith formerly was employed by Allstate Insurance Co. as operations and underwriting manager from 1985-94.

UTILITIES

WILLIAM H. MASHBURN JR. has been promoted to marketing and customer services supervisor for Appalachian Power Co.'s Abingdon division. He formerly was a demand-side management associate in the company's general office marketing and customer services department in Roanoke.

WHOLESALE

PAM SAYERS has joined Williams Supply Inc. of Virginia, a wholesale electrical supplier and lighting design center, as systems administrator. Sayers will oversee computer service functions at the company's Roanoke, Collinsville and Harrisonburg locations as well as all electronic data interchange accounts.
