His resignation is effective Aug. 31 but Flora said he will assist the Board of Supervisors during September as the board begins its search for a successor.
Flora became county administrator on Feb. 1, 1990.
The supervisors accepted Flora's resignation Monday with regret and voted to begin immediately searching for a replacement.
Board Chairman Zane M. Jones said Flora had ``brought the county a long way'' in the four years he has been administrator.
Other members of the board also praised Flora, saying that the relationship between the board and the administrator's office had been exceptionally smooth.
Even though he is leaving as administrator, Flora said he will not leave Craig completely. He plans to maintain a second home in the county and maintain a strong interest in the county's welfare.
Flora said he will be available for advice and guidance if the Board of Supervisors wishes to call upon him.
Flora said the decision to accept the Buena Vista job was difficult.
In addition to being a career advancement, another factor in his job change is that his wife, Sandy, a real estate agent, is from Buena Vista and has relatives living there.
Flora said he had enjoyed working in Craig County more than any other place.
``I wish only the best to the Board of Supervisors in the future,'' he said in his letter of resignation.
