Lt. Col. RICHARD C. HOWELL, son of Clell and Ramona J. Howell of Radford, was promoted to his current rank and is assigned to Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class LARRY D. HARRIS, son of Larry C. Harris and Bonnie J. Cooper, both of Narrows, completed the Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit course, Nuclear Power School, Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla.

Navy Dentalman MATTHEW S. RITTER, son of Gregory L. and Sandra Q. Ritter of Christiansburg, completed the Basic Dental Assistant Course, Naval School of Dental Assisting and Technology, Naval Station, San Diego.

Marine Pfc. JAMES R. LEECH, son of William W. and Sara J. Leech of Elliston, reported for duty with Headquarters Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Navy Seaman Apprentice CHERISH A. ALMARODE, daughter of Shelby D. Almarode of Pulaski, completed the Advanced Non-Morse Operator Course, Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla.

Marine Lance Cpl. ROBERT L. RICE, son of Kay Martin of Dublin and Robert L. Rice Jr. of Draper, recently received a Meritorious Mast. He's assigned with the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Marine Pvt. ROGER A. CROY, son of Brenda S. Croy of Radford, graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class TROY H. DALTON, son of Janet P. and Troy H. Dalton Sr. of Radford, departed for a six-month Western Pacific deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, San Diego.

Navy Midshipman STEPHEN L. LEWIS, son of Jack M. and Mary A. Lewis of Blacksburg, recently trained aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, Alameda, Calif. Lewis is a student at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.

Navy Hospitalman Apprentice MELISSA C. RICHARDSON, daughter of George M. and stepdaughter of Cynthia G. Richardson of Narrows, graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School, Naval Hospital Corps School, San Diego.

Navy Seaman Recruit RICHARD C. THOMAS, son Richard E. and Barbara A. Thomas of Pulaski, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Airman Recruit JAMES L. BROWN, son of Debbie C. Brown of Christiansburg, graduated from the Aviation Structural Mechanic Hydraulics Maintenance Course, Naval Air Station Memphis, Millington, Tenn.

Navy Seaman CHRISTY M. GRAHAM, daughter of Nelson G. and Linda T. Moran of Shawsville, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

Airman LUCAS T. DUNCAN, son of Landis D. Duncan of Christiansburg and Linda A. Dickerson of Dublin, recently was promoted to current rank. He's stationed at Beale Air Force Base, Marysville, Calif.

Colonel TERRY L. HYPES, son of Edith E. Hypes of Pearisburg was promoted to his current rank. He is stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La.
