DRIVERS PUNISHED

NASCAR has taken disciplinary action against two New River Valley Speedway drivers for unrelated incidents that occurred during last Saturday night's racing events, which received live television coverage.

NASCAR leveled a $200 fine on Late Model Stock Car driver Rodney ``Six-Pack'' Cundiff of Rocky Mount for ``action detrimental to the sport - fighting.'' The incident occurred following the second LMSC race and involved driver Ronnie Newman of Salem.

Action also was taken against Rock Harris of Yadkinville, N.C., for an incident that took place during the Limited Sportsman feature. Harris was fined $200 and placed on probation for the remainder of the season for rough driving.

Harris hit race leader Tam Topham of Wytheville while trying to pass two laps from the end of the race. It caused the two drivers to spin. The cars of Topham and Harris were heavily damaged along with several others that became involved while trying to avoid the wreck.
