Last week, CMP Publications Inc., a Manhasset-based publisher of 12 computer titles, sued its 4-month-old neighbor InterActive Enterprises, a company launched collaboratively by former CMP employees and CMP's rival Ziff-Davis Publishing Co.
Both CMP and InterActive plan new publications this fall covering converging technologies - such as the cable, telecommunications, computer and television industries - with similar titles: Interactive Age from CMP and InterActive Week from InterActive Enterprises.
In its lawsuit, CMP alleges that former executives Jack Dolce and Beth Haggerty Ruffenach stole trade secrets and breached their contracts. It seeks a permanent injunction, court-awarded damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
Dolce, president of InterActive Enterprises and former senior vice president of CMP, denied the charges.
