ANDERSON, Kevin Dale, 33, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994. Arrangements by Oakey's North Chapel.

ARMENTROUT, Bess Danner, 100, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994 in the Birdmont Nursing Home in Wytheville. Mrs. Armentrout had celebrated her 100th birthday two weeks ago with a large gathering of family and friends. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 4, in St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, August 3, at Barnett Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wytheville's East End Cemetery. Mrs. Armentrout was born near Ft. Chiswell on July 17, 1894 to James Andrew and Belle Loflin Danner. She was married for 48 years to William S. Armentrout, a Norfolk and Western Locomotive Engineer. Mr. Armentrout died shortly after retirement in 1960. Bess and Bill Armentrout were the parents of six children, all of them living. They are, Frankye Armentrout of Wytheville, William V. (Jake) Armentrout of Decatur, Ala., Allene Collins of Abingdon, Olin Armentrout of Max Meadows, James Armentrout of Gray, Tenn., and Margaret Ann Carper of Colonial Heights; also the five spouses of her children; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Building Fund of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

BAIN, Kenneth Lee, 59, of Dublin, died Wednesday, August 3, 1994. Arrangements by Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, Radford.

BEACH, Carrie Elizabeth Johnson, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994 at her home. She was born October 2, 1917 in West Virginia and was preceded in death by her husband, George P. Beach. Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Noel and Carolyn L. Beach, Clifton Forge, Benjamin C. Beach, Coconut Grove, Florida; two granddaughters, Arlene E. Collins, Altoona, Pa., Lynda P. Hayslett, Martinsville, Va.; three great-granddaughters, Emily Hayslett, Sarah Collins, and Kristen Collins. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, August 6, 1994 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with the minister Bill Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke or to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

BOVA, Frank William, 70, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 3, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. He was president of Bova Distributing Company and a veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife, Edith Poff Bova, Roanoke; two sons and daughter-in-law, Frank W. (Bill) Jr. and Ruth J. Bova, Roanoke, Richard Alan (Rick) Bova, Roanoke; one granddaughter, Michelle Bova Cruz; one grandson, Ritchie A. Bova Jr.; one great-grandson, Jordan Thomas Cruz; three nieces. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's South Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday with entombment in Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Gene Burris will officiate. CARR, James W., (``Jimmy''), 76, of Vinton, died Wednesday, August 3, 1994, at his home. He was an army veteran of World War II, and was past president of the Star City Classic Thunderbird Club. He was former vice president of Dixie Building Products and a past member of The Roanoke Valley Home Builders Association. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth ``Ebbie'' Snead Carr; three sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Brenda Carr, Roanoke, Paul and Linda Carr, Vinton, Denny and Helen Carr, Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter W. Carr Jr., Roanoke; sisters, Kathleen Via and Ruby Rouse, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, 1994 with the Rev. Dr. William L. CARSON, Ellen V., 93, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 1, 1994. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Robert Benne, Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Janet Carson, Bethesda, Md.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, August 5, in St. Joseph, Mo.

DALTON, Eva McClure, 65, of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 1994. She was a member of the Dublin Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Paul L. Dalton of Pulaski; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Barbara McClure; one daughter and son-in-law, Dottie and Bill Miller of Radford; five grandchildren, Mary Weaver, Meg Miller, Donnie McClure and David and Debbie Ritchie; one foster daughter, Mrs. James (Sue) Ritchie of Roanoke; five brothers, Herb Ritchie of Cleveland, Ohio, Joe Ritchie of Fairfax, Raymond Ritchie of Damascus, J. D. Ritchie of Roanoke, and Wayne Ritchie of Damascus. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 1994, at 2 p.m. at the Dublin Baptist Church in Dublin with the Rev. Phil Taylor and Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. ELLIOTT, Leona Pauline, 53, of Shawsville, died Wednesday, August 3, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dale Akers with burial in Sunset Cemetery. GARRETT, Velma Carter, 86, of Big Island, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994, in Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. She was the widow of the late Gorman Lee Garrett. Born in Amherst County, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Nannie Burks Carter. She was retired from Lee's Carpets with 25 years of service and attended Chestnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Lois G. Turner of Pearisburg; two sons, Roy L. Garrett and his wife, Norma of Glasgow and Harold L. Garrett and his wife, Pat of Winter Springs, Fla.; a sister, Kathleen Taylor of Big Island; a daughter-in-law, Cleo Garrett of Lynchburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jessie J. Garrett; a brother, William J. Carter; a sister, Maude Henson and a grandson, Ronald E. Turner. A funeral services will be conducted Friday, 2 p.m. at the Chestnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Big Island by the Rev. Bob Breeden with burial in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens in Lexington. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence in Big Island. GRIFFIN, Kathleen Ratcliffe, 45, of Sparta, Tenn., died Monday, August 1, 1994. She was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Ratcliffe. She is survived by her husband, Bill Griffin; one daughter, Donna Griffin; three sons, James Griffin, Roger Griffin, Billy Griffin, all of Sparta, Tenn.; her mother, Alice Ratcliffe, Floyd; one brother, Robert Ratcliffe, Fredericksburg; two sisters, Rose Ratcliffe, Floyd, Carol Ratcliffe, Culpeper; one half sister, Betty Boothe, Floyd. HARTBERGER, Margie E., 55, of Salem, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 2, 1994, following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Maynard Hartberger and is survived by her children, Joseph Hartberger, Jeff Hartberger, Jamie Hartberger and their wives; five grandchildren; other survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Okay Wirt; brothers and sisters, Minor, Charlotte, Doug and Judy. Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. Funeral services will be conducted noon Friday, August 5, 1994 at Calvary Baptist Church, Salem with Pastor John S. Collins officiating. HAWKINS, J. C., (``Buddy""), 83, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994 in Friendship Manor Health Care Center. Mr. Hawkins was a former member of Belmont United Methodist Church and at the time of his death, he was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. He was member of Williamson Road Masonic Lodge #163 AF&AM, a member of Scottish Rite Bodies Kazim Shrine Temple, and a member of Chapter 119 Order of the Eastern Star. In early life, Mr. Hawkins sold newpapers after school. In 1924, at the age of twelve he was employed by Shepherd's Auto Supply where he served for 56 years until his retirement in 1980. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Thomas W. (Noreen) Dunn of Roanoke; a number of nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Charlotte Underwood. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, with Dr. Alton M. Washington and Dr. J. Denver Davis officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. HAYES, Mary Peery, 66, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994, at her home. She was the widow of John Carroll Hayes. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Donna Hayes, Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Don Smith, Chilhowie; three brothers, Jim Edd Peery, Wayne Peery, both of Tannersville, Charlie Peery, Vienna; two sisters, Emma Webb, Seven Mile Ford, Daisy Martin, Chilhowie; also several nieces and nephews.
