MARINA RAYE, author and spiritual teacher, will lead two workshops Sunday and Monday at Unity of Roanoke Valley, 3300 Green Ridge Road. The first, "Do You Have An Owner's Manual for Your Brain?" will be offered from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The second, "Sexuality: The Sacred Journey" will be the theme on Monday night from 7 to 10. A donation of $15 is requested for each workshop.

Raye also will preach at the Sunday morning services at 9 and 11 on "Hearts in Action."

The leader, who holds a master's degree in counseling, also is president of High Performance Training, a motivational program for adults. She has studied Native American ritual and is a flute player and recording artist. Call 562-2200 for more information and to register.

COLONIAL BIBLE INSTITUTE, a ministry of Colonial Baptist Church at Blue Ridge, will begin its ninth year Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. Open now for registration are a three-year program of General Bible Studies and Bible classes for auditing. Classes meet on Monday nights from 7 to 9:40. Call 977-5683 to register.

THE CATHOLIC PRO-LIFE FOUNDATION of the Blue Ridge has awarded several prizes to Roanoke Catholic School students in its annual essay and poster contest. In the essay division, Audrey Dickson of Salem took third place and won a $50 scholarship. Anthony Dickson of Salem and Brendan McCarthy of Roanoke won honorable mention.

In the poster contest, Ryan Stroud of Roanoke took first place and won a $75 scholarship while Regina Garza, also a Roanoker, placed second and won a $50 scholarship.

Students winning honorable mentions in the poster competition included Christine Pendarvis, Courtney Campbell, Fielding Fitzpatrick, Erika Metz and Christina Coleman, all of Roanoke.

The contest encourages youth to express their convictions against abortion.

THE REV. DONALD M. WARRICK JR. has begun his work as pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Buchanan where services are held Sundays at 11:15 a.m. Warrick also conducts worship at the Lithia Church at 9 a.m. and Andrew Chapel at 10. The 32-year-old minister was reared in Arlington and has come from a five-year pastorate in Chariton on the Eastern Shore.

GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 4404 Williamson Road , will feature two classes for adults at its vacation Bible school Monday starting at 6:30 p.m. "Spiritual and Physical Healing and Wholeness" will be taught by William Fintel, oncologist, and Gerald McDermott, religion professor, and the Rev. Arthur E. Grant, pastor. "Learning to Pray" will be taught by Helen Watson.

The classes will run concurrently with activities for children from age 2 through eighth grade. Registration for children will be Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

Fintel and McDermott are authors of "Living With Cancer," a 1993 book which has achieved national attention. Grant is pastor of Woodlawn United Methodist Church.

EMMANUEL WESLEYAN CHURCH has chosen the Rev. Tim Becker as its new assistant pastor for youth work and music. He succeeds the Rev. Orlando Gonzales who has become pastor of Salem Wesleyan Church. Becker and his wife, the former Jennifer Kelley, have come from Marion ,Ind. where he was assistant pastor of the Main Street Wesleyan Church.

A GOSPEL CONCERT is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday in Elmwood Park led by the Star City Jam of St. Gerard's Catholic Church.
