CAROLYN E. HALEY of Roanoke received her doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is principal of Round Hill Primary School.
LYNCHBURG COLLEGE has named several Roanoke-area students to the dean's list. They are: Beaufort Martin, Michael Wolf and Tonya Zimmer, all of Roanoke; and Kathryn Franke of Salem.
KEVIN JAMES BRISKEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Briskey of Roanoke, recently graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a major in marketing. Briskey was named to the dean's list.
ANTHONY HOPPER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benton Hopper, has been selected to attend the summer semester for the Oxford Program at Oxford University, Cambridge.
STEPHEN B. STEFFEK of Roanoke and JOHN E. KINNEY of Vinton were named to the dean's list at High Point University in High Point, N.C.
JULIE MARYSCUK, daughter of Thomas and Patricia Maryscuk of Blue Ridge, has been awarded a $200 Roy E. Milling Scholarship by Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. She is a junior majoring in accounting.
THOMAS H. GEER of Roanoke recently graduated from Boston Univerity in Boston, Mass. He received a bachelor of arts degree in biology with a specialty in marine science.
KRISTIN D. WESTERMANN, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. D.J. Westermann of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
KATHERINE HAMES and LEIGH ANN LAYMAN have received scholarships from the Roanoke County Education Association for students who plan careers in education.
Hames, a 1994 Cave Spring High School graduate, received a $1,000 scholarship. She will attend the College of William and Mary and major in elementary education and Spanish.
Layman, a 1994 William Byrd High School graduate, received a $500 scholarship. She will attend the University of Virginia and major in government.

AMY ELIZABETH WILSON of Roanoke was named to the spring semester dean's list at Morehead State University in Morehead, Ky.
LISA MILLER and AMY FRAZIER TEMPLE, both of Roanoke, recently graduated from Lee College in Cleveland, Tenn.
Miller earned a degree in business administration, and Temple earned a degree in human development.
THE COL. WILLIAM PRESTON CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION presented good citizenship awards to students at three schools.
Students at Cystral Spring Elementary receiving the awards were: Kristen Gandee, daughter of Wayne and Maryanne Gandee; and Donny Smith, son of Don and Babs Smith.
Students at Roanoke Catholic Lower School were: Jessica Mason, daughter of William and the late Charlotte Mason; and Brad Pully, son of Steven and Denise Pully.
Woodrow Wilson Middle students receiving the award were: Tasha Burnette, daughter of Kim Burnette; and Justin Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Walker II.
STEPHEN MULL, son of Dr. and Mrs. Curtiss Mull of Roanoke, recently graduated from Albright College in Reading, Pa. Mull is a graduate of North Cross School.
RIMJHIM SARKAR of Roanoke is among 50 students from eight states who gathered at Tennessee Technological University for the university's Introduction to Engineering and Computers Workshop, a National Science Foundation Young Scholars Program.
Sarkar is a rising senior at Cave Spring High School.
Students learned about engineering careers and research opportunities available, explored engineering concepts, performed calculations using FORTRAN programming and studied the interrelationship of energy production and the environment.
DANIEL G. BOWMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bowman of Roanoke, received a bachelor of science degree (majoring in psychology) from Bluefield College. He also was named to the dean's list for the spring semester and was listed in Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities.
VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE has announced that the following students were named to the second semester dean's list: Michael S. McFadden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael F. McFadden; and Robert T. Prince, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Prince Jr., both of Blue Ridge.

VIRGINIA WESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION has received a $15,000 grant from the Beirne Carter Foundation to assist in construction of a Community Horticulture Center on the college's campus.
A total of $195,000 is needed to build the multipurpose resource facility, which will complement Virginia Western's greenhouse and arboretum. The structure will house a working area for planting projects and a center for independent research and group lectures.
JEFF BRENEMAN, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering, has been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter at Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio, and completed the entire year on the dean's honor list. He is the son of John and Lois Breneman of Roanoke.
WHITNEY LEFTWICH of Cave Spring High School and MARCEL MICHELLI of Patrick Henry High School are two of 11 Virginia students nominated for the 1994 National Caring Award.
The awards are presented annually by the Caring Institute in Washington, D.C., to identify adults and young people who have demonstrated extraordinary compassion and caring, to find mechanisms that reinforce these valuable social instincts, and to create peer role models.
MARK AVERY PIERCE, son Mr. and Mrs. David R. Pierce of Salem, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Milligan College in Upper East Tennessee.
LAURA McCALLISTER, daughter of Randy McCallister of Roanoke, has been named to the spring semester dean's list at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. She is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
