Rick Carlisle an assistant coach with the New Jersey Nets since 1989, was hired Thursday as an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers.

The University of Virginia graduate is the second assistant hired by coach P.J. Carlesimo this week. Former Trail Blazers player Johhny Davis joined the staff Monday.

Carlisle was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1984. He also played with New York and New Jersey during his five-year career.
