Michael Goodwin portrays Lt. Col. Nathan Jessup, the professional warrior caught in the courtroom conflict. Goodwin has appeared on ``Matlock,'' ``Dynasty '' and ``St. Elsewhere,'' and he has a featured role in the upcoming film, ``Road to Wellville,'' which stars Anthony Hopkins.

ROLLING THUNDER: Marching musicians from seven states will descend upon Salem Stadium on Tuesday night at 7 for the latest edition of the drum and bugle corps competition known as the Summer Music Games of Southwest Virginia.

WORLD PREMIERE: The musical ``A,'' written by Pinckney Benedict and Anthony Nalker, will make its stage debut Saturday night at 8 at Greenbrier Valley Theater in Lewisburg, W.Va. It is just one event in the Greenbrier Valley Music Festival, which runs today through Sunday.
``A'' is based on Hawthorne's ``The Scarlet Letter.'' A second performance will be Sunday night.
Tonight, Cantori Montani will present a concert at Lewisburg's Carnegie Hall. It will feature Brahms' ``Liebeslieder Waltzes'' and Howard Hanson's ``Song of Democracy.''
Sunday afternoon at 3, the Greenbrier Festival Chorus and Orchestra will present Haydn's oratorio, ``Creation.''

EAT A PEACH: The Virginia Mountain Peach Festival will be today and tomorrow at Crestar Plaza in downtown Roanoke. Desserts will be served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 to 5 tomorrow. Prices range from $2.50 to $3.50 per serving. On Saturday evening, downtown chefs will compete as they create peach desserts. Virginia champagne will be served, and cool jazz will be played. The Virginia Peach Festival will be Wednesday from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at J.P. Via's Peach Orchard on Virginia 697, 12 miles east of Stuart in Patrick County. THIS MUST BE AMBIANCE: The Four County Players and Barboursville Vineyards will present ``As You Like It'' as their Shakespeare at the Ruins production tonight and Saturday night at 8. Guests should bring lawn chairs and blankets for the performance in the ruins of Governor Barbour's mansion.
The play also will be presented Aug. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 8 o'clock, Sunday and Aug. 14 and 21 at 5 p.m., and Aug. 11 and 18 at 8.

COME ON DOWN: The Art Museum of Western Virginia is having its opening reception for the exhibition titled, ``The American Spirit: 19th Century Masterpieces from the Masco Collection.''
It will be today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the museum's first floor gallery at Center in the Square in Roanoke.
The exhibition shows how American artists and patrons strove to create a uniquely American style of art. The frontier landscapes show America as a New Eden. Work from 33 artists is on display.
The exhibition continues through Oct. 16.
