VETERANS' ADVOCATE DIES

Thomas Ray Plymale, long active in veterans' affairs in the Roanoke area, died Thursday at his home. He was 79.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Plymale served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was an original member of the Roanoke War Memorial Committee, serving since 1982.

Plymale worked for the National Biscuit Co. for 38 years as a district sales manager for the special products division. He was past post commander of American Legion Post No. 3 for three years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth; two sons; a brother; and a sister.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Northminster Presbyterian Church.
