SEX-HARASSMENT POLICY ON RADFORD AGENDA

A proposed sexual harassment policy for city employees will be on the agenda when City Council meets Monday night. City Attorney John "Bunny" Spiers Jr. told city officials he decided to draft the policy after reviewing the Civil Rights Act and other information about the topic.

The proposal defines sexual harassment as "unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and/or verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature" that might interfere with job performance or create "an intimidating, hostile, offensive or abusive work environment."

City Manager Robert Asbury has endorsed the policy for inclusion in the city's personnel policies and has recommended its approval. Employees found in violation of the policy could be fired, but anyone filing a false sexual harassment complaint also could face dismissal.

Council also will consider first reading of an ordinance to create a permanent commission to oversee the city's annual Cleanin' 'n' Greenin' spring cleanup and other environmental activities.

A proposal to sell a 1975 Fire Department pumper truck to the Simmonsville Fire Department for $4,000 also is on the agenda.

City Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers for a work session to review water-treatment plant renovation plans. The regular council meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.
