Chorus auditions for Opera Roanoke will be held on Monday from 7-9 p.m. on the second floor of the Jefferson Center in Roanoke.
Male and female adults of all voice types are encouraged to audition. Appointments are necessary.

Needlewook exhibit
Needleworkers are invited to submit entries for the 15th annual Needlework Exhibit at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg on Oct. 14-23.
All entries must be made with a hand-held threaded needle. Two classifications are open for adult artists, amateur and professional, with categories including canvas work, counted thread, dollhouse miniatures, embroidery, French hand sewing, smocking and quilting, among others. A class for juniors ages 6-16 is open, too.

Poetry contest
Poems are being accepted for entry in Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum's newest contest. Cash prizes will total $1,000.
Poems must be 20 lines or less and may be on any subject in any style. The contest closes on Sept. 30, and winners will be notified by Nov. 30.

Photography show
The 1994 Area Photography Show, open to all photographers within a 150 mile radius of Lynchburg, will open in the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center on Sept. 11 through Oct. 9. This year's juror is Peter Beck, a lecturer at J. reynolds College and editor of the Virginia Society for the Photographic Arts.
Entries are due on Aug. 26 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Aug. 27 from noon-4 p.m. Call the Lynchburg Fine Arts Center at (804) 846-8451 for more information.
Ballet auditions
Roanoke Ballet Theatre will hold auditions on Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at its studios on 116-B Kirk Avenue in downtown Roanoke. Auditions are open to dancers ages 12 and older. Prior training in ballet, jazz, modern or tap is required.
Members will perform in the December production of ``The Little Match Girl'' and ``A Holiday Toy Shop'' as well as in other shows.
