MUSIC GAMES NOT JUST `HALF-TIME SHOW'

The Summer Music Games of Southwest Virginia has its roots in the old ``Drum Corps over Salem'' show, started by the Salem High School Band Boosters in 1987.

Last year, the show became affiliated with Drum Corps International Inc.

``It's an interesting entertainment event that we just don't have in the valley,'' said Mary Loritsch, chairwoman of the boosters' publicity and promotions committee.

``People think it's a marching band, just another half-time show.

``But once you've seen it, you know exactly what it is.''

Tonight's show, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Salem Stadium, features seven of the top 25 drum and bugle corps in the world.

Tickets are on sale at the Salem Civic Center for $12. All seats are reserved.

For more information, call (703) 387-3301 or the civic center box office, (703) 375-3004.
