Vogler and Broadwater developed their project around their knowledge of the deaf community. They showed how they use sign language to help younger children understand how a non-hearing person learns and communicates.
Ridenour, Notter, Gilmore and Trear developed and conducted a program to raise cultural awareness among 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-graders at Bethel Elementary School. They focused on four countries and their people through language, food, games and crafts.
Thye designed and developed a sister-troop program for geographically separated troops. She coordinated with Blacksburg's Cadette Troop #218 and Honolulu's Cadette troop #374.
Winfrey focused on conservation through recycling. She collected more than 400 cookie cases and boxes from the cookie mothers in the Blacksburg area, prepared them and arranged for them to be properly recycled.
AL DORMAN of Pembroke has been awarded the Civilian National Pistol Championship, the 45 National Pistol Championship and the Civilian 45 National Pistol Championship at the National Pistol Championships held in Camp Perry, Ohio. CHRISTINA M. MACCHERONE of Blacksburg was a winner in the National Federation of Press Women's annual communications contest held in Las Vegas, Nev. Maccherone is a free-lance writer and owner of Serendipity Advertising. Maccherone, Norma Lugar of Roanoke and Connie Akers of Radford won for a direct mail marketing brochure, ``All I Want Is a Good Job,'' which they created for National Business College.
