BUCS FALL TO LYNCHBURG

John Graham knocked in Todd Carey with a sixth-inning single to break a 5-5 tie and the Lynchburg Red Sox held off the Salem Buccaneers for a 6-5 Carolina League victory Wednesday evening.

The Buccaneers began with a three-run, two-homer first inning. Second baseman Ramon Zapata led off the game with a home run and right fielder Jake Austin added a two-run shot. Salem had only four more hits off Lynchburg's Wes Brooks (11-10).

An error by shortstop Lou Collier opened the door for two unearned runs in a three-run second inning for the Red Sox. Matt Ruebel (4-4) gave up nine hits and five runs (three earned) in taking the loss for Salem.

The teams wrap up a four-game set tonight at City Stadium.
