PEMBROKE - The New River and Roanoke Valley chapter of the Concord College Alumni Association are organizing "The First Annual All-You-Can-Eat Picnic and Summer Outing" on Saturday, Aug. 13, 3-7 p.m. at the New River cottage of alumnus Ben Crawford, one mile off U.S. 460.
Alumni are asked to bring their families and a vegetable or dessert for the picnic, as well as swimsuits, floats and fishing poles. Organizers plan to award a prize to the angler who catches the biggest and smallest fish.
There is no charge and the picnic will be held rain or shine.

Colonial Va. Bike Trek
ROANOKE - The American Lung Association of Virginia will sponsor the ninth annual Colonial Virginia Bike Trek in Williamsburg Oct. 7-9 to raise money for the control and cure of lung disease.
Cyclists may choose from 25-, 50- or 100-mile rides that travel through Yorktown, Jamestown and Surrey County.
The registration fee is $25. Participants must raise a minimum of $275 in contributions. Call the Lung Association, (800) 586-4872.
Meet GOP candidates
RADFORD - New River Valley residents will have a chance to meet with Oliver North, Steve Fast and Mike Farris at a bring-your-own-lunch luncheon Wednesday, Aug. 17 from noon to 12:45 p.m. at shelter no. 1 in Bissett Park.
The luncheon is sponsored by the Fast campaign. Fast is the Republican candidate for the 9th Congressional District. Tea and soft drinks will be provided.
