Council gets grant for arboretum
The Community Arboretum Advisory Council has received a $3,000 grant to develop programs for the Community Arboretum on the Virginia Western Community College campus.
Lee Hipp, Virginia Western professor of horticulture technology, said the grant will be used to train volunteers as arboretum tour guides and to develop a series of brochures to be used for self-guided tours, to educate children and to raise community awareness of the facility.
The grant was awarded through the Urban and Community Forest Grant Assistance Program, which recognizes innovative approaches to developing partnerships between local governments, corporations, non-profit organizations and citizens.
