ATKINS, Betty Davis, 63, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Roanoke, died of cancer on Tuesday, August 9, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Atkins. She is survived by two daughters, Tenia D. Phillips of Memphis, Tenn., and Toni G. Atkins of San Diego, Calif; two sons, George C. Atkins of Walpole, N.H. and Robert J. Atkins of Vinton, Va.; one sister Hester Smith of Roanoke, Va.; two brothers, David Davis of Accident, Md. and Robert Davis of Cripple Creek, Va.; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Lotz Roanoke Chapel on Saturday August, 13, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held privately for family members on Sunday, August 14, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Cemetery in Cripple Creek, Va. Betty was a gentle and kind soul. She will be missed by her many friends and family.

BARBOUR, Willie Stewart Jr., of New Jersey, formerly of Roanoke and Franklin County, passed away on Monday, August 8, 1994, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, a loving wife, Alberta (Nee Younger); sons, W. Omar, Lavern and Alice Barbour; John and Joseph Cardwell, all of Jersey City, N.J.; one sister, Helen Barbour Cook, Roanoke; two brothers, Joe Barbour, Washington, D.C., and Curtis Barbour, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Omar and Africa Martin, Jol and Tiffany Cardwell, Lyonna Barbour, all of Jersey City, N.J., and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., Hamlar-Curtis Chapel, with the Rev. U.N. Broady officiating with burial in Williams Memorial Park. CONNER, Wilmer Andrew, (Tailpipe), 70, of 2018 Willis Hollow Rd., Shawsville, died Wednesday, August 10, 1994 in the Salem Veterans Hospital. He had retired from Kroger where he worked as a diesel mechanic for 40 years. He was a faithful member of Gospel Baptist Church for over 30 years where he was a deacon and a trustee. He was actively involved in the New Convert Discipleship Ministry at the church. He al so was an Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Christine T. Conner; two sons and daughter-in-law, Elmer A. and Roberta L. Conner, Franklin Co., John Edward ``Eddie"" Conner, Blacksburg; two daughters and son-in-law, Ruth E. and Mike E. Hawkins, Roanoke, Nancy C. Linkous, Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Susan L. Bell, David Linkous, Dallas Richards, and Andrew Conner; two great- granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sarah Bell; three brothers, Howard Conner, James Conner both of Roanoke, Douglas Conner, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Annie Huffman, Buena Vista, Ruby Gibson, Roanoke. DAWSON, Lewis Parker, 67, of Richmond, Va. died Wednesday, August 10, 1994. He is survived by his mother, Mary T. Dawson; one brother, James M. Dawson Jr. Mr. Dawson retired from Virginia Power. GARBER, Dorothy Faw, 82, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 1994. She was the granddaughter of C. Rufus Faw, a prominent church architect in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Ross and Georgiana Hatter Faw. Mrs. Garber graduated from Bridgewater College and served in Austria, England, and Spain with her husband. She was loved by the conregations in which her husband served and travelled with him in over fifty countries. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Merlin E. Garber; son and daughter in-law, Leland F. & Patricia Garber of Emmittsburg, Md.; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Wallace Thompson; grandsons, Gregory Garber, Derek Garber, Dr. James Thompson and Dale Thompson; four foster children, Robert E. Richards, Waco, Texas, Rolland Walters, San Diego, Calif., Landy Barredo Romero, Cancun, Mexico and Ana Piz zano, Central Islip, N.Y. HUDDLESTON, Fred T., 83, of Moneta, passed away Thursday, August 11, 1994 at his residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Huddleston. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Yost Huddleston; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Huddleston; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Jewell Boothe, Dot and Petey Morris, Nancy Martin, Carol Huddleston, Mary and Keith Mullennix, Dena and Ronnie Scott; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Harry and Doris Reed. JARRELL, Joyce Darlene Hall, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, August 10, 1994. Mrs. Jarrell was a graduate of Clearwater High School, Clearwater, Fla., St. Petersburg College, St. Petersburg, Fla., and National Business College, Roanoke, Va. She was a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church, a volunteer tutor with L. V. A. of Roanoke and until her illness was employed as a counselor with Nutri-System Diet Center in Roanoke. She is survived by her husband, Dallas G. Jarrell; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin G. Jarrell, Lenoir, N.C.; a daughter, Ms. Laura Elizabeth Jarrell, Harrisonburg, Va. Mrs. Jarrell was preceded in death by her father S/Sgt. Garland Rush Hall. Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Edith Castle Hall Lyon, Bristol, Va.; a brother, Mr. Ronald W. Hall, Stillwater, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Linda Hall Dimick, Dunedia, Fla. It was the wishes of Mrs. Jarrell that there be no funeral service. LESLIE, Joseph Ryan, infant son of Debra M. and Barry K. Leslie, of Salem, passed away Thursday, August 11, 1994. Y.; two brothers, Frank Miller, Bedford, George Miller, Pittsburg, Pa.; one sister, Elizabeth Wright, Bedford. OTEY, James Newton, 85, of Vinton, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 1994. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Otey. Mr. Otey was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from N & W Railroad. Survivors include his brother, James W. Otey and a devoted niece, Evelyn Bonds, both of Vinton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. PEARMAN, Clara Belle Barnett, 81, of Prices Fork, died Wednesday, August 10, 1994 in Riverside Nursing Home, Saluda, Va. Mrs. Pearman was born in Montgomery County on December 17, 1912, a daughter of the late Tosh Evans Barnett and Bertha Lou Shepphard Barnett. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Pearman Jr. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Gale P. and Harry G. Kennon; one son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Joann B. Pearman; one sister, Beatrice B. Pearman; one brother, Melvin V. Barnett; grandchildren, Brian Kennon and wife, Michelle, Darren Kennon, Matthew Pearman and Laura Pearman. PRILLAMAN, Robert Patrick, 34, of Snow Creek, died Thursday, August 11, 1994, at his home. He died of complications from AIDS. Patrick was the son of Paulina W. Prillaman and the late Roy W. (Bill) Prillaman of Snow Creek. He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Paulina and David Wampler, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mollie Dee Prillaman, Christiansburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Roy W. Prillaman Jr. and Patricia, of Snow Creek; nieces and nephews, Justin Gregory, Gastonia, N .C., Jessica Gregory, Chattanooga, Tenn., Roy W. (Bill) Prillaman, III. and Ruth Ellen Prillaman, both of Snow Creek. Patrick is also survived by a loving and supportive family of friends. Since 1982, Patrick has been in the design business in New York City. He and Mrs. Kathy Cope had recently formed their own design firm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haven G. and Ruby Akers Ritter; brother, Larry Ritter. STABLE, Frederick Earl, 82, of Route 1, Narrows, died Wednesday evening, August 10, 1994, at his residence. A life long resident of Giles County, he was born on January 28, 1912, and was the son of the late Jarman and Elizabeth Ann Bird Stable. He was preceded in death by a son, Freddie Stable in 1951; a daughter, Shelby Sanders; and two granddaughters, Lisa and Melissa Sanders in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Sallie Mullins Stable of Narrows; a daughter, Carol Stable Frazier of Narrows; a sister, Ethel Stable Hale of Narrows; two grandchildren, Sherry Lowe of Rich Creek, Chris Sanders of Narrows; a great-grandchild, Brandon Lowe of Rich Creek. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows, with Mike Lynn, Minister officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. STANLEY, Leah Thompson, 93, of Ferrum, died Wednesday, August 10, 1994, at Eldercare of Rocky Mount. She was born the 15th of June 1901, the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Laura Turner Thompson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude D. Stanley. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Nell and Jack Mullins, Collinsville, Margaret and Bill Touchton, San Angelo, Texas; four sons and daughters-in-law, Lane Stanley, Roanoke, James (Jimmy) and Polly Stanley, Tucker, Ga., Warren Stanley, Ferrum, Charles (Chris) and Joan Stanley, Roanoke; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Marion L. Stanley; one son, Charlie M. Stanley, Vinton; one daughter, Margaret S. Conner, Roanoke; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest E. and Christine Hoback, Radford, W. S. She was a charter member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and enjoyed singing in the choir. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Trevillian, a daughter, Judy T. Meador, two brothers, Landon C. Hunt and Dock R. Hunt. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon Denver and Margaret Trevillian of Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Yetive and Junius Davis of Salem; son-in-law, Jack Meador of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frank C.
