Directors of Alliant Techsystems Inc. on Thursday elected Joel Greenblatt chairman of the company's board. Greenblatt is a general partner of Capstay Partners, L.P., a New York-based investment management firm that last month led a shareholders' proxy effort to challenge Alliant's management. He is one of six Capstay nominees recently elected to the Hopkins, Minn.-based Alliant's board.
Capstay officials have questioned Alliant's proposed $365 million purchase of the aerospace division of Hercules Inc., including its operation of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.
Greenblatt said the board will evaluate options available to the company, including the proposed acquisition of Hercules' aerospace business.
