MAN'S BODY FOUND IN LAKE

The body of a 40-year-old man was found Friday morning in Smith Mountain Lake, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Bobby Addison Poindexter of Union Hall was found 300 yards from his Franklin County home, near Virginia 945, Lt. Doug Perdue said.

Poindexter had gone fishing Thursday about 12:30 p.m. His mother alerted sheriff's deputies early Friday that he had not returned home. Deputies recovered his body about 9 a.m.

Poindexter was unable to swim, Perdue said. He appeared to have fallen off the embankment where he was fishing.
